I'm wondering why I have constant water in the well near the transom on my 2015 H180 OB. Why did they design the scuppers to be open all the time? I've had the boat for four weeks now and it's starting to get slimy in there. My friends with older Horizons don't have this. Their boats are nice and dry back there.

They do sell a scupper flaps for that size drain hole.

As it's a 2015, I'd be inclined to ask the dealer. It's possible that something was missed during the build....

I'm not sure what is is supposed to be like, but that doesn't seem right.

Does it do that even when there is no weight or people on the boat? What size/weight is the engine?

It really seems like the boat is sitting low in the water. Lower than it should be.

On my 2004 the transom is designed for a 25" shaft motor. These new boats are using a 20" motor and therefore the motor well is 5" lower/closer to the water.

Yes, this is when the boat is empty at the dock (no passengers). When we are underway all that water exits the holes.

The engine is an Evinrude 135 H.O. It's within the specs of the boat. My dealer is great and I'll ask him, but thought I'd ask here too.

Just seen your post. This looks normal to me.

I have owned a few outboards and the wells are consistently wet. The design of your boat may well be a little lower in the water and allow more water to drain in, but that well almost always has water in it unless you are under way.

I talked to Four Winns customer support in Michigan and they confirmed that this is normal. I guess they keep the holes low on the transom because if they were higher more water (and weight) would accumulate. It wouldn't matter to me if I trailer my boat, because I could clean it out after each use. But I keep it in the water all summer.

Another thing you might want to check. Does the splash well in this boat have an access plate in the splash well? Many OB boats do to provide bilge access there. The concern is that if the access plate get loose and leaks you can wind up with a lot of water in the bilge. I just read of an incident involving a Wellcraft on the hull truth.com where the access panels popped off, it flooded the bilge with water and the boat almost sank!!
Take a look at this carefully also check where the fuel lines and wiring pass through.

Yes I have the access plate with the screws. It's partially visible in the top photo I posted. I'll keep an eye on it.

I'd probably want to check for any water in the bilge, do you have bilge access inside the boat?
Also, often these boats have very small bilge pumps. Consider up grading to at least an 1100 gph unit, with an auto switch. This should be standard equipment.

Our '99 has the scupper holes open also. But it doesn't sit that low in the water. The only time I've noticed water in that area is if I'm running slow enough to stay off plane and then come off power. The wake will come up to the boat and some water will get it, but it always drains back out.

That area on my boat has always been a little greasy and slimey. Nature of a 2-stroke OB. Plus I always keep my steering greased which doesn't help keep it clean.

I think I found my solution to keep my engine well dry -- two Snap-Tite plugs. I'll take them out if a big rain storm is forecast while the boat is at the slip.
