Yep coming along very nicely. You can see how much work goes into reconfiguring the interior of a boat. I was going to re configure my boat from the sun sport seating with the big sun pad and bench seat to the dog house style with jump seats to give easier engine access and more fishing room. But I decuded that it would be more work than I wanted to get involved in to make it look factory and also Id give up a lot of storage space on either side of the engine.

Well i guess you guys want some updates. I have been busy in life. But here is the progress. i finally decided on my structural support system after talking with a few people and came up with the best result for the application. laminated ply for the supports and the bolster sides. 1x4 will be cut and laminated to the main hatch area tonight. edge fill and glass will happen monday and next week when i return from our ski trip.

Came up with an idea for the flame arrestor. Basically will have to make a box type piece with a 3" flange to connect direct to the throttle body with a silicone connector and then out the front of this piece above the oil fill cap or possibly towards the rear of the engine as our intake vents are back there with more room, a 3.5" flange for this KN Flame arrestor filter. I'm gonna draw this up in ACAD over the winter and have it fabricated. Buddy has a TIG so he's ready whenever, and I'll probably go to a 70mm throttle body at the same time also.

Gave up on this 90 degree adapter because well there is no room for it, 2" between riser and throttle body flange. Sent a request over to K&N for a custom filter based upon the 59-5010 filter, changes are 3" inlet and 1.75" filter height (the 4.5"x9.31" rectangle size fits with no problem). Will let you know when get the pricing back if your interested in one also.

last night i got all of the xXx bracing cut and fitted. Tonight i will router the edges, glue and screw. And start round fillet in the seams...

it took me a few to lay out all of the guide lines and measurements to have it exact but proper prep makes for easy work.

THANKS

so so the xXx is Fillet edges (this is a thickened resin with a silica powder, you can add as much as you want to get desired thickness, this is about the consistency of peanut butter) i use a plastic spoon to fill the sharp 90* corners into a smooth 1/2' radius so that the fiberglass lays smooth in the transitions.

tabbed in with 1708, and the right side is tabbed in and flat glass. tonight the left side will get resin and the centers. i think one more night and she will be ready to flip.

friday i did a good bit of sanding in prep for fiberglass tosay.
midmorning after a long list of house chores adn little projects that needed to get done badly i was able to lay some glass.

Image

The cable man came to hook up the new higher spped internet service and change out a few things. The rest of my day basically was odd small jobs and hanging out wiht my son. around 11pm I hit the shop and put it is high gear glass mode and banged out the last of the glass on the structural supports, all that is left on the underside is to lay the single sheet on the back side of the back rest. This will happen tomorrow. then a flip and glass on the topside and edges.

last night i got the final piece of glass on the under side of the hatch. She is rigid and i love it. and to think that i still need a sheet of glass on the top side to finish her off. I wil glass the side sings of the back rest bolsters and edges tonight then flip the hatch. i am ready to see it in primer this week.

How heavy is that hatch now?!
You might need to add the 383 Stroker to this build! :P

not sure 100% but it is not bad. i can pick it up off the saw horses with one hand with ease.. im guessing it will be comprable to the factory hatch plus about 10# im guessing since the hatch includes all of the back rest structure. and a a stroker would be a nice motor upgrade.

Stuff since the last time i posted. She will be flipped and get prime and paint tonight.

Image

Wood laid out for the rolled edged. So i wrap the wood in wax paper for release and no stick to the resin and glass. roll the glass around the edge and it overlaps 3" clam the wood and you are left with a smooth underside that is fully adheared and a smooth edge.
