So.... I know I have read about this, can't seem to find it by searching.....
For some reason, I thought when I left the boat, I switched it to off (pointing down) and it would turn off all the 12volt power. Mine doesn't do that.... is it supposed to? I understand that the bilge pump and co detectors need to be powered all the time, just didn't realize that the rest of the 12 volt would be also.... so does the battery switch just power the starter and select the source for that part.... it's making sense, just didn't think of it that way.....

On the 268s the rotating battery selector switch controls which battery(s) will be used to start the engine and run a few engine/drive related systems. The toggle switch above the rotary switch and just below the circuit breakers controls the "Ships Systems." A few items like the bilge pumps are wired direct to battery power. The bilge pumps would not draw any power unless they were operating. I'm not sure about other systems like the CO detectors. On occasion we have inadvertently bumped the Ships Systems toggle switch to the "OFF" position. The engine keeps running but everything else gets real quiet.

When leaving the boat for a few hours we typically leave the switches on and shut off what electrical appliances we don't need. If you are leaving for the week you might shut the switches off. Keep in mind that shutting them off will kill power to the fridge and everything else. If you have shore power you might leave the Ships Systems switch on so you have a cold beer when you return......

Perfect, thanks Gary! I had seen the windlass breaker tucked up there, but had never really looked at the other breaker. My ignorance of how the system worked. I am up to speed now.... I am not sure why, but after 2 weeks of not being on the boat and charging the batteries, they had got low. The only thing that I think was drawing power was the co detectors.... brought the generator to charge the batteries enough to eliminate the low alarm on the inverter....
