On the 278 it is very easy to run cables directly from the battery switch to the cabin down the port side of the boat, rather than via the fuse box on the starboard side.

Is this an issue on a 01 298 as well? Are you talking about the galley one? i have a cockpit icemaker the PO said doesn't work.

I'm pretty sure the ice maker wouldn't be hooked to DC, ice requires a lot of power.
