Twobeefours here! I'm old enough to remember the imperial units and still estimate things in inches, feet, miles etc.Sad, I even remember the old coins, when we had 240 pennies to the pound. I resisted the temptation to quote anything in metric, but M12 slipped in along the way!

I built a nice cart for my Cobra out of some 2x6s, the basic frame has doubled 2x6s so it is way stronger than needed, and I used some adjustible casters to wheel it around, that way I can get it set at the exact level I want to get the drive on easily.
About metric vs English...even after years of using metric tools with my VWs and Japanese cars, I still have a bit of a hard time thinking in metric, and my old Jeep has both, everything on the body is metric, most fittings on the engine are in inches, fitting as it is an ancient AMC designed inline six!

Somebody makes a fully articulating drive dolly that would be awesome to have if you routinely did your own drive work. But I think it costs ~$700US and would take up a lot of room when not being used.

Just did a little surfing around on the web and found one of these units $1400 US dollars

I too will be building a cart/dolly very soon for my boat. I guess I just decided that I don't want to haul the boat to the shop and have some kid work on my boat!!! If anyone is going to mess it up, it will be me. :D

My 99 Vista 258's bellows were original. I just had them replaced (I am not the original owner). The original bellows, while still pretty flexible, had lots of little cracks in between the ribs. I think I just caught it in time as there was no water intrusion noted BUT there were zebra mussles inside the bellows   The mechanic is still confused as to how they actually got inside.....

I saw someone adapt a Craftsman motorcycle jack with a couple of 4x4s stacke on the mount, the nice thing about it is that you can get the height exactly right very easily so you don't have to wrestle it on. Those jacks are about $90 or so, my stand was pretty cheap to build but if I had the room in the garage I'd have gotten the 'cycle jack.

I was just reading through the Volvo owners manual this afternoon. It says "bellows can be replaced without removing the drive". Has anyone tried this approach is it possible?

The exhaust bellows perhaps; I don't see how the drive shaft bellows could be done without pulling the drive.

Certainly for the "pre facelift" SX/ DPS it's only one type of exhaust bellows that can be changed without pulling the drive; this is only tue for the " stub" exhaust tube that is attached only at to the transom shield end. The corrugated bellows type that is attached to both the shield and the drive cannot be changed this way; it's retained in the drive by a BIG internal circlip that sits inside the bellows, this can only by removed when the drive has been pulled.

Not to get off the subject of outdrive stands, but when they recently did my alignment, they realized that my drive bellows had a slit in them and water intrusion into the gimble bearing. Go figure, my exact fear was actually happening without me knowing it. Wierd huh? Good thing they found it and checked it prior to the season starting.

I still would not attempt to do that job myself.
