Well I finally got my Coast Guard 50Ton Near Coastal Masters license with a Commercial Towing endorsement in the mail yesterday!
I was very pleased with the course I took at Mariners School. If anyone is interested in getting their license, I would hightly recommend the Mariners School.

Congrats captain!! :D What are you planning on doing with the liscence? will you charter out your boat? What are the benefits of the captains liscence other than the obvious knowledge base you now posses? I was thinking about getting my liscence for when I retire but i want to investigate the income potential.

Thanks Again Everyone! I am somewhere's between wanting to retire NOW, and more realistically within the next 3 to 5 years. I have already talked to Sea Tow about P/T back up relief captain, to cover for regulars out sick or on vacation or in the off hours. I particularly enjoy boating nights on the Hudson, so I would consider something like a 5pm to midnight shift. This is really just to get my feet wet so to speak. I have also talked to local dealers about deliveries from time to time. There seems to be some interest there. All of this is just to get some experience. I may advertise for a few charters on my boat, especially next summer, as part of the Hudson River Quadracentennial celebration that will be going on all summer long. There will be "Tall Ships" up and down the river from the Battery to Albany, and a lot of sightseeing cruise opportunities. My goal is to get enough experience to be able to jum off when I retire from Corporate life into a post retirement Captains carreer! Right now I am starting to work on a website, but all of this is just a dream at the moment.

BarryBoats: Great to hear from you! Congratulations on your move to Florida! I am real sorry we missed each other before your left! Best of luck. When you get a chance send me your contact info, and I'll definitely want to stay in touch. Let us know when you are back "Up North"!! Stay Well.

Thanks Again Everyone for your good wishes!
Wishing Everyone a Happy and Safe Boating Season!
Cheers,
Jim.

You may have something there with local dealer deliveries.
There's a guy that lives here in Tulsa and travels the country doing demo days for Harley Davidson.
