I have a small stone chip in the windshield of my FW and was hoping to have the chip repaired using one of the chip repair companies. My wife just took our car to the shop to have a chip in the windshield repaired and she asked about the boat windshield. She was told that boats have tempered glass windshields and that it would not have chipped unless it was not tempered glass.

SO, here are my questions. Is a boat windshield tempered glass? Can a small chip be repaired by a standard windshield chip repair company? Any other advise or comments would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve

Tempered - Uh Huh. As in 8 billion pieces if it shatters - like the side and back windows of the car. I very much doubt boat windshild glass is layered tempered with a plastic center binding as it is in automotive windshield applications but I don't see why that should make a difference in a repair. This type of glass will almost always have a little stamp in a corner somewhere to identify the type - unless its lexan or some other plastic.
In fact, If it were me I would be after that repair first thing as with any imperfection in tempered - the slightest stress the right way can make it blow apart and it could even be something as simple cold water hitting a hot glass. They maybe afraid to stress the spot with the suction thingy they use to froce in the glue for the same reason but if you can get someplace to do it wouldn't it be better if it broke at someone else's hands?
I would FREAK OUT if mine chipped or got broke. I would never find a replacement I'm sure. My dealer & FW would probably refuse to answer the phone & go into hiding. Let us know if they can do a repair for you. Good for our future reference.

I won't be by my boat to check until this weekend, but the 2007 broshure does indicate that saftey glass on the windshield and swing open walkthrough is standard on the 200 and 210. I believe safety glass is the same as tempered.
