That's how the carpet dries out

Your carpet should stay snapped at highway speeds without a problem. Maybe a snap or 2 was already loose???

I'm pretty sure the snaps were fastened at the time. The carpet has been known to ruffle while underway out on the water occasionally as well. There are only two snaps at the top of the carpeting underneath the helm with the next ones behind the floor locker and under the captains chair.

Does this happen to anybody else?

Yes, there is a thread dedicated to it. The dealer will install addl. snaps for you while under warranty. Otherwise, you should add snaps to it for prevention of this.

That's exactly why I cover. I plan on getting the snaps done when I take mine in for other misc after the season. I find my aftstep pad stays wet, mainly because it's dripped on while entering, and then the cusion put down over it thus not exposed to the sun/wind.

Yeah, I had the carpet edging fray a little from flapping around when I towed without the cover on at highway speeds. The dealer convinced me that if I towed with the cover on the boat would get scuffed. I've been thinking of adding the extra snaps to the carpet myself.

My carpet flapped around violently when we bought the boat new and drove it off the lot. Our dealer installed a few extra snaps that kept it largely in place and it's much improved on the water. But we found it still "caught air" when trailering at 50-55 mph and the snaps at the sunsport bench seat would come undone. The edges became frayed in the corners so we now unsnap and remove the carpet before loading the boat. Our dealer did order some new cockpit carpet so we now have a back-up.

I'm still not convinced to try trailering with the snap-on covers installed. I thought I read that the snaps will eventually work holes in the canvas and the canvas would rub the gel coat. But it would be nice to see better gas mileage and not have to remove the freakin' carpet as part of our loading ritual.

I've never towed any way other than with the snap-ons installed. I double-check to make sure every snap is secured, since it would only take one loose one to wreak havoc on the gel coat. But I haven't had a problem yet and our shortest tow is 70 miles each way.

I towed my 225 to Indy from PA when I purchased it, with the snap-on cover on the entire way. I did not have any issues at all.

I'm sold, next trip we're going to try towing with the covers on!
How about the canvas support poles? Do they stay in place fairly well or do they tend to slip and fall when on the road?

My support pole snaps in place on the cover, and I have the bottom end placed in the holder in the floor for the cockpit table.

Both poles should snap to the covers. My cockpit cover pole sits in the floor socket for the table; the bow cover pole just sits on the floor and doesn't move, as long as I get it fairly plumb when putting on the cover. I've noticed that my front pole will not stay raised to the height I set it at, due to the force of the wind down on the bow cover. It doesn't matter how tight I try to make it, when we arrive it has slid down. That gives you an idea of how much wind resistance is being exerted on your boat when there are no covers installed.

That was what I was getting at - I know the poles snap in to the canvas and so that'll be secure. I figured I'd put a rubber chair-leg cup on the base of the poles to help it grab the carpet or fiberglass deck. Help keep the poles from sliding out.

Actually, I have towed (probably and hour each way) at freeway speed with the bow and cockpit canvas / pole arrangement and had no issue at all. The poles don't even shorten. But then I don't have the canvas surface area of a 240. What I have noticed is that on the 16hr. trip back from NH with my baby, the WakeBoard tower bimini had enough play inside the boot for the bows to rub through the canvas where it folded between them in a couple of spots :( Not earth shattering but I had a few tiny daylight spots that will eventually evolve into rips.
Thankfully, my dealer worked his usual magic and asked for a new mid section of the top and they sent me a whole new bimini :D - how sweet.
Normally anytime she is on the trailer she gets the trailering cover - towing or parking. It is a lighter synthetic fabric which would be more water proof than the canvas however even with a pole / strap anti-pooling setup (it has rubber foot cups on the pole ends) it really vacuum packs into the bow on the highway. This unfortunatly pulls the sides up over the rub rails to where they can flap in the wind and scuff the shine off the black gell. I will probably have some loops sewn in for straps 1/3 of the way back from the bow to resolve that issue - other than that the cover is easier to throw on than the canvas - more water proof and covers more of the boat. It is really nice - just needs a tweak or two for highway trailering. The boat is always filthy from the rubrail down after towing so I would hate to think what the white interior would like like if it wasn't covered.

I've usually got so much junk on the floor of the boat (wakeboards, coolers, etc.) that the carpet doesnt move. I trailer with the covers on only if I think it might rain...but like mike, my front support always drops... but ive never had an issue with it unsnapping or pulling snaps out.

Have your dealer add a snap on each side here;

It keeps the air from blowing under the carpet.
