A fix for the support pole pushing down on the road may be as easy as scuffing the lower pole with 120 grit sandpaper just below the bottom of the top pole. Cut a 1" section of split pliable rubber hose (heater hose) that fits around the lower pole with edges not quiet touching and tighten down an screw clamp on it. the upper pole shouldn't be able to press down pass the desired spot after that. A proper fitting ratcheting trailering cover is the best solution I've fond so far.

Great suggestion.

There would be several ways to fix the slipping pole, but mine only slips so far and then stops. Since I don't need it for rain runoff, I don't worry about it.

I've trailered mine the 1.5 hour ride to and from the marina with covers on after they told me i could. There is a lot of down force on the bow cover and i noticed that the front of the pole is wearing trough the canvas. not where it snaps down. I tow it to local lakes with no covers and once towed it almost 3 hrs with no covers because of the bow cover wearing through. I am making this 3 hr trip again and want to keep it covered but don't want that pole to tear through the canvas anyone else notice this happening? You think i should wrap some foam or something around it to prevent that from happening?

I have trailered 8 hours without any harm to the covers! My covers have a reinforcing patch on the underside of where the snap connects. It appears to be leather. All you need to do is disperse the point load over a larger surface so it won't be able to puncture. Take the lid off of a margarine container or some similar semi pliable material and place it between the cover and pole.

I put plumbing pipe insulation over the ends of horizontal support pole under the bow cover to avoid the chaffing issue.

Just got back from a 800km trip where I tried trailering with the bow and cockpit covers on. I noticed a big difference in gas mileage (increased from 12 to 16 mpg), but noticed that the bow cover scuffed the gel coat in certain raised areas. I fixed the dropping support pole by setting the height and then wrapping painters tape around the pole, preventing it from lowering any further.

I wish Four Winns offered a trailering cover with a little more padding for the 180.

+1

Would love the new FW trailer cover for the 180. Now all we need to do is get Fourwinns to make if for the 180...

I say cover. I think one of the best things you can do to prolong the life/looks of your interior is to keep the dirt/grime and sun out as much as possible. I made sure the new Four Winns trailering cover (http://www.fourwinns.com/images/canvas/ ... gcover.jpg) was part of my deal. When the boat is out of the water, trailering or storage, I put it on. Eventhough I keep the boat in enclosed storage, I still cover it. The trailering cover does have a tag that says right on it not to use the anti-pooling system with it while towing, rather to put it in place when your done towing. On a semi related note I've found the Meguiar's Marine Vinyl cleaner (http://www.meguiarsdirect.com/product_d ... +CLEAN+16&.) works awesome for keeping the vinyl looking new. It also has uv protectant in it.

Added picture of the boat w/ trailiering cover:
