I have used my boat about 5 times at 1-2 hours a time. Yes I know not nearly as much as I would have liked have used it. So I figure its about due for the inital 10hour checkup. So I am in the boat and finally glance at the hour meter and it says 58.1 - what the heck? I did leave the key on one week and it resulted in a dead battery, but that time shouldnt have been counted should it?

I do believe if the key is in the far right position, your hour meter is recording. I noticed this the first time we used the boat, sitting in a cove listening to the stereo. I always make sure the key is set to the accessory position when relaxing with the motor off.

Sounds like the wife has been out boating while you're at work

You could probably wait until you winterize and have that service done then.

I know on a friends 2004 Cobalt, the hour meter ticks when you have the key in the acc position for the radio, ect.

That's dumb. Why would they have the meter run when the engine couldn't possibly be running?

Speaking of having the key turned to accessory pos. Does anyone have their depth finder re-wired to have it on when in accy position? Just wondered why FW didn't? Sometimes I like to not anchor while Mrs sun baths & I fish, & would like to know when I could be getting to close to low level W/out having fish finder on draining the batt.

I just had an issue with the hour meter on my '07 220 and the mechanic confirmed that the hour meter should only count when it receives a tach signal. Mine had a solid hour glass to the left in the display but when the hour meter is actually counting the hour glass should be flashing. I believe it is the same gauge used in the 210. My tach was defective and was fine after it was replaced.

I would check to see if the hour glass is flashing with the key in the run postion and the engine off. Maybe the tach is defective in an opposite manner to mine.

Regards,

Steve

I talked to the dealer service Dept today. They said that the hour meter guage counts hours when the key is in the run position. He mentioned that the ECM/ECU counts the hours on two modes active engine time and key on time. I am not sure why there would be any interest in key on time vs active engine time, but this is what they are telling me.

Interesting. The FW manual states

Quote:
The hour meter is connected to the ignition switch.
Be sure the ignition switch is in the OFF position
when the engine is not operating or the hour meter
will record additional time.

But I personally have observed a key on, solid hourglass as described by H180. I have trained myself and my wife (easier said than done!) to use the accessory position (one click to port from off position) for listening to the stereo when the boat is not running, and I can verify that the hour meter does not accumulate time in this position. I'm uncertain about the on or run position (one click to starboard from off position), I'll have to test it again.

I'm just fussy enough to try and synch the hour meter to actual run time as reflected by the ECU - even if it involves disconnecting the hour meter and running the boat to 'catch up'.
