I am curious about which of you has fuel injection? A mechanic told me that Four Winns abandoned Fuel Injected engines a few years ago. Read my posts about Engine Power Loss as I ask this question -- as they put my engine together am I better off abandoning fuel injection for a carb? Can it even be done? Thanks, Mark

   !!!???

Nearly the opposite is true. Most of the boats they (and every other I/O manufacturer) sell now are injected.

Run, don't walk, from that mechanic. There's nothing wrong with a carb engine, but that guy's an idiot.

Update your signature to include your boat year and model. It helps others give more relevant answers.

Carburetors are less expensive than EFI systems. Smaller boats may have a carbureted engine as a cost-savings factor. For larger engines it's generally more fuel efficient to use an EFI system. Since the larger engines are usually on larger boats, or as a higher-priced option on the smaller boats, the added cost of EFI isn't much of a factor. If I had an engine that was setup for EFI I certainly wouldn't switch back to carbs. EFI systems have evolved over the years. If I had an older EFI system that wasn't very good, I'd certainly considered upgrading it to a newer EFI system instead of 'cheaping out' and downgrading to a carb setup. But this would depend on the size of engine and boat.

As for that mechanic's "advise", be afraid... be very afraid of what other half-assed notions he's entertaining in that little mind of his...

Replace your mechanic as fast as Mike said, efi is an easy to understand system its hard to believe a mechanic would want a carb instead.
Im thinking on changing my carbureted 460s over to fuel injection.
