I agree. Most years we spend a week at Table Rock, slipped, etc., and we've ended the week with as few as 8 hours added to the clock, even though we were "on the boat" all week. It all depends on how you use your boat.

How can you not have an hour meter for the engines? All boats come with them, or at least I've not heard of many that don't. You'll have a problem come resale time getting a decent price for it if the hours aren't known.

I know it's kind of like not having an odometer for a car, but I've seen quite a few smaller boats (under 20') without them. (Or I'm missing something)

There have also been cases in this forum where the hour meter runs even when the engine isn't, so they can't be 100% accurate. Plus, you can replace or install them at any point, giving a fresh start. I've thought of installing one, just so I know what my yearly run time actually is rather than estimating.

I figure if I take care of it, and keep good maintenance records, my resale will be fine.

Check your engine compartment too. My old Baja had it mounted back on the transom.

I've got 60 hours on the clock this summer and hope to put another 10 or so on before the end of the season. 20 hours in the last two and a half weeks with the nice weather.

If we had a decent summer I expect I would have been closer to 100.

I got my new boat the week before Memorial day weekend and have had it out almost every weekend, along with a 2 vacations totaling 9 days of near all day use, and I've got only 24 hrs on it. We spend about 1/2 to 1/3 of the time on the water wake-boarding(couldn't tell by skill level) or tubing, so I thought we would have more hours on the clock also.

All boats do not come with a "visible" engine hour meter. In the old days, most did. Not so today. The engines' hours are recorded on the engine computer, and can be read with a scan tool, or laptop with appropriate software.

Thus is the case with our boat. So I can only estimate actual hours of running time this season. I do not have a scan tool nor the $700 Volvo software for my laptop.

Estimate for this season is 80 hours.... maximum.

My boat had 45 hours on it when i bought it 2 years ago. I have since put about 50 hours each summer. I try to get out more, but with weddings :( (not mine) and all the other crap that seems to get planned for me, I dont get out nearly as much as I would like.

Even on some of the older boats, there was no hour meter.

Our boat doens't have an hour meter on it either. But I say running time we have maybe 15 hours this year but in the water time more like 80 or so.

My 07 only has 36 hours on it after 2 seasons. Not very much use, I know, but I've got to work the OT when its available to pay for it. I installed a Sendec hour meter (simple - just stick it on the transom and wrap a wire around a spark plug wire), as my 180 did not come with an hour meter. I also keep a cruising log to keep an eye on fuel consumption and any problems/quirks.

I just took my boat in for the 20 hours service. I am at about 22 hours. Lots of time at the sand bars and coves this year. Just less running around.

I think I put 30 to 35 hours on my Jet Ski.
