Would love to see some more info if it's possible and thanks again for posting all of the pix! Maybe you've addressed this before, but why are you (thankfully) advanced all of this information?

I simply asked (the right people) for the info. Maybe being in the marine industry helped a bit, I'm not sure.

I went to their site and cannot find any press releases...I go to the section called Press Room and it directs you to a disclaimer, but the only thing there to view are logo's and photo's (none of the 408)

Finally some info up on the Four Winns site about the 408. Not full spec and pricing info, but a pdf download of a nice brochure....some new pics. Very sharp looking boat, with some really innovative features...the basic spec's match the Cruisers 420 Sport Coupe. As previously mentioned saw that boat in Norwalk and was extremely impressed by the layout, especially the cabin...not sure FourWinns has them beat there, tough to tell on pics alone....be interesting to see how those two boats match up on price.

I was on the 408 at the Fort Myers boat show last weekend, the price on the boat was $550,000. It is still a proto type as currently there is only one. I think they are actually looking for input from people who see it. I found the cockpit to be laid out very well, 32 thousand BTU A/C didn't hurt on a warm day. They have done the helm well in my opinion the gauges and two 12" Raymarine monitors were easy to view. This boat also had the nightvision which is pretty cool. The cabin was open altought they did not have the removable island bar installed. The comments are correct about the TV it is in a bad spot. The cockpit TV is in an OK position. Over all I thought it was a good first attempt at a completly new boat.

Kudos to Four Winns for being so thorough with that brochure. I'm really looking forward to seeing the V408 at the NY Boat Show next month (and would be happy to offer feedback!). It looks like there is no shortage of those thoughtful Four Winns touches that put them over the top for me when I was shopping.

I'm very pleased with the helm layout of this boat. The fact that they included a walk-though windshield is a big plus in this class. Separate from the ongoing debate about walk-throughs, most people moving up to this boat will be coming out of one where they had it and have grown accustomed to it. I must say I've never seen a foredeck sunshade (cabana as they call it) like the 408's before - clever. Even the simple nice touch of a handle for the hinged part of the windshield is the kind of practical design that makes you say 'oh, yeah - that makes sense.' The number of standard features continues to impress me with the brand. Yes - they'll get hassled about the location of the salon TV and the fact that the swim platform fender stowage, while smart and innovative, is completely impractical if you have a RIB or PWC, but it looks like there's a whole lot to like here. I love that they show it with the FLIR infrared system, although I didn't see it on the option list.

It does look like the competition in this class is growing with the new Chap 400. It's a slightly higher price-point but they've made an interesting innovation with the design of the bow allowing for more than typical cabin room without (reportedly) compromising performance. It also looks like they stepped up the level of the finish, something that turned me off to their 350 as compared to FW when I was shopping. Looking forward to seeing that one in person at the show as well.

Wow, it really does look well thought out, at least in that brochure. I like it!

I have to REALLY reach to find much to question. But there are a few nits to pick.

Not sure I like the upward pointing switches at the helm. Seems like a fine way to catch liquid in them. But since it's a hard top that's "less likely" unless you have the forward door or roof open (or spill your beverage).

Oooo, only else notice that FLIR contol joystick? I'm sure that's not a cheap option but night vision? COOL! I'm thinking I'd want the control a little closer to the wheel and throttles though. But it'd be tough to get everything crammed together. On the few occasions I've needed to aim the spotlight I can definitely say I liked having it close. I see it's now moved all the way over the port side of the helm. Loose the starboard side cupholder and move the spot and FLIR over there.

Hey, look, nice vinyl to get marked up by dangling ignition keychains!

The lines on the stern are a bit busy looking. The angled slope on those locker doors looks odd. Seems like style just for the excuse of it not practicality. Not ugly, just off. The glass bottom boat panel on the platform is a clever feature. Another thing to clean though, from the underside. And where do those big fenders and rack go when the kiddies want to look at the fishies? I'd rather see those hatch doors fold flat instead of staying up at a hinge-snapping angle when one of the kids sits on them...

Not sure I like the grill right next to vinyl seating. Grease is just a hassle to get off of seats. That and the cover better stay cool lest someone walking down the starboard gunwale get their hands burnt.

And again there's no step-down from a dock to the swim platform. The way boat manufacturers keep creating those sloped edges to the gunwale/transom area is pretty looking, but it makes for no easy way to step down to the platform. On the 358 it's bad enough, you have to twist your foot around to hit the step squarely. Here it looks even less convenient.

How come they conveniently omit any pictures with a camper canvas installed?

What's the bag up at the anchor locker? A cooler bag? Looks like the port side one has a fender in it? Both are clever ideas. I put a washdown hose in my anchor locker lid and love having it.

The bow walking step is interesting. I prefer having a solid rail up there to have something to hang onto when overreaching for lines and stuff. I could see where the step would be nice in some docking situations. Might make for a hassle when trying to get the anchor turned right side up though.

The bow loungers are great. The bimini for them seems a bit much, yet ANOTHER thing to have to stow properly. Still, a nice touch.

I really wonder about the lack of storage in the forward berth. I really don't like to see large swaths of vinyl along walls. It's just asking for a shoe or other edge to nick it. I'd really much rather see the area using cabinetry for storage. The makeup table mirror and it's storage drawer are nice. Keeps that stuff outta the head. At the cost of losing a closet though, not my idea of a reasonable trade-off.

There's a clear island table shown for the galley. That's clever. Now, where does it get stowed?

Hmmm, two tables in the cabin, that can be turned to make one larger surface. Another clever idea! I could see where having just one table mounted would be handy instead of a single large one.

Yet another situation where the TV is mounted so more than one person can't watch it from comfortable seating. Do the designers never try using a boat during anything other than sunny day time hours?

OH NO! Not the round phone booth shower! Noooooooooooo! Just because other boat makers are using it doesn't mean it's a good idea. Every time I see one of those I keep thinking a Get Smart and the Cone of Silence sort of joke.

But honestly, this is a small set of criticisms against a really nice looking and good looking boat. Bravo on such a nice overall design.

The brochure on the 408 has some great pics. I can't wait to see it up close at the NY boat show. One thing I did not see is what the aft curtain enclosure will look like. I wonder how much of the stern will be covered ie. the reverse facing seat, the grill, the steps. Also on the walk through windshield it really does not show what happens to the fiberglass section just above the windshield. Is it hinged? is it removeable?

Buddy just sent me a note...there is a "sneak peak" video at boattest.com...few new views, says full test in Dec....does have one view of the back canvas up, but does not look like the bottom is snapped in...looks like it should snap in over the back vinyl.

I was at a marina here in SW Florida on Friday 11/28 and the 408 is floating in a row with a 338, 358 and a 378. Didn't have the camera with. I will be back there next weekend so if it there I will get a couple shots.
