Same set up, they are fireing down at each end of that opening...I don't think I have any pics, but they do not intrude into the cabinets above, so I'd guess they are 5 or 6" round and are centered no more than a foot from each end of that opening.

The V bearth speakers on our boat are up closer to the bow, again fireing down from under the shelf...the back of the speakers are boxed off at the very forward of the shelf opening on each side. I had to open that up once when the starboard speaker was not working...the wire had pulled loose.

Cougar I think I might have figured out how to post a picture. Here is our 318 at our favorate Island hang out spot we go to on weekends. Your questions about the speakers, there are 4 in the cabin two in the V berth and two anove the setee under the cabinets. Ours has a six CD changer, don't know if it is standard or not but I think so. It also has the AMP mount behind the setee with the 10" sub under the lounge in the cockpit. The sound is very good inside and out.

OK - I'm tired of seeing pix from you people who get to boat all year  ! This may be the year I finally do that charter down in the Caribbean I've been threatening.

Great looking yacht Dave. Looks like it may be time to fire up an official V318 thread...???

Thanks guys for the nice words!! The spot is great lots of boaters from all over you never know what you are going to see. I have got to ask how you like the 348/358. My wife has 2' syndrome and we have been working with our dealer on a 2008/358. I really like your yacht's the extra width and lenght makes a big difference.

Love the boat. Couldn't be happier with my choice. If you haven't checked it out already, plenty of musings on the V358 Thread. That said - and I'm sure I'm not telling you something you don't already know - you should really consider a jump of at least ten feet if it's feasible as the itch comes quickly. Then again, if your dealer can do right by you on the deal, it's a great move. I would sea-trial the boat first, of course, to make sure the inevitable compromise you'll be making in speed performance is balanced by the gain in space.

I dread the day that another round of 2 foot itis rolls my way. I don't know how you guys with the "big boats" can do it! Man, I've quickly realized that going up 2 feet isn't like the 5k price difference between a 240 and a 260... It's like 20-50k for that extra 2 feet!

I love that the 318,338.358 are all laid out the same. I can only imagine going bigger. Having an extra couple feet on length and width would really change the experience.
I saw a 378 not too long ago and it was so big I about pissed my pants. Just maneuvering a boat that big is crazy

Dave -- what's the skinny on the 358? Colors/options?

The 358 has the same color combination as my 318, black stripe with the copper at the water line. The main difference's are a full flexteak cockpit "I just have it on the swim plate form", Volvo D4 diesel inboards with auto pilot and diesel genset. The other stuff is the same between the two the E80 nav package, teak/holly cabin floor, mid cabin tv is all the same. It's just those options are all big dollar add's. A lot to think about.
I did get a call from them today that they have someone who is looking for a 318 with the hinged arch maybe a small bit of leverage don't know yet.

Your going to love your new 318, I've owned several other makes and FW by far has the best quality. Just hope you never have to work on your Gen Set...then again I guess we cant have it all.

Here's a picture of ours in our home port at Bridgewater Landings

Congrats

Great pics guys!

hey guys, what bumpers are you all using? And, where do you store them when underway? Is there enough storage in that aft compartment for 4-6 larger fenders?

I use the Taylor 'Big B' fenders - I believe 8 x 20 with fender covers which help avoid scuffs on the black hull. You can probably go one size smaller with the V318. 7" X 15" is recommended for boats up to 35'. I stow two fenders in the transom locker (it can easily fit four - I assume the 318 can too) and two typically rest on the gunwhales while underway (I prefer not to use fender racks). These two remain attached to the bow rail with Taylor Fender Adjusters and have never bounced around. I bring additional fenders with me when I travel. I also use chafe guards on all of my lines - a small investment to eliminate any line scuffs on the gelcoat or friction against striping.

I use the Taylor 7" x 15" fenders, I only carry two because space gets to be a problem I keep two more at the dock at home if needed. I have room for more than two in the transon locker but by the time you have a fresh water hose, dock lines, wash down hose, a bucket and other stuff I run out of space. Sierra with the 358 has a larger locker which is really an asset. Two fenders for me have never been an issue. When I am docked I set them and use adjusted stops on the lines to get them where they need to be.

I second the recommendation to use the fender covers. Trouble is the covers really only last about two seasons. But if you're going to have a fender in near constant contact with the hull you really, REALLY want to use a cover on it. A key is making sure your placement of them is such that it only puts pressure against the hull well after being compressed against the rub rail. For fixed dock situations, or adjacent boats, this is usually easy. For floating docks, not so much, but I have a fixed dock setup.

Next time around I'd probably go with the 7" variety for a bit more storage flexibility. The 8" ones are a bit larger than necessary. not that you mind the added protection.
