I might be wrong, but I think that fire was caused by a defective oil return connection. Volvo had used the wrong type of connector a few years ago and had a recall and service bulletin on it. The oil hose would work its way loose and cause the oil to dump into the bilge and possibly cause a fire. It happened to my 03 Sundowner and we were lucky that it only ceased up the engine and did not cause a fire. The dealer told me about a boat that did burn to the water line. That boat could be it.

It's possible that is what happened but doubtful as the issue with the lines was on gas engines. My boat was the source of the recall from Volvo. I lost a oil line at 13 hrs on the port engine. Made a mess, the engine shutdown like it was supposed to because of low oil pressure. Volvo had the dealer replace the line with a new one and completely check the engine. All was good. Volvo had the dealer send the failed line back. Two weeks later and 20 hrs later the same line (new one) failed on the same engine. I emailed Mike Townsend from Volvo that Saturday evening after we got home along with the dealer. Monday morning by 9:30 Am, I received a call from Mike. He had a new engine on the way to the dealer and had already called them and scheduled the service for me. Within two weeks the engine was replaced with a new full crate engine and the lines were changed with the new style.

Volvo had two vendors for high pressure lines. One vendor made those for their diesel engines and the other for gas. The Vendor for the gas engines was not machining any barbs on the nipples, only a few smooth raised ridges which were not significant enough for the hose to grip once the hose warmed and was under pressure. Add the vibration of the engine and off it would work itself.

Volvo replace the engine and extended the warranty on both engines for me. Mike also called twice to specifically speak to the wife to assure her they had the problem fixed, apologize for the issue and verify that she was again confident in her boat.
