Hi all new to the forum...
If we are talking about a genset in a 268 Vista, the message post says 258.....
We have an 03' 268. Just finished our 3rd season with it. The boat did not have a genset in it, we spent the 1st season without one. Over the winter I started thinking about how nice having one would be. I started looking into it, and found new units were in the 7-8k range. WOW. Just happend to call a local marina to get another price and found they had several 5 kw units used. 2 Kohlers and a Westerbeke. The Westerbeke looked like brand new, it had 300 some hours on it, bought it for 3500.00. Another 500 or so in muffler, thru hulls, remote panel and harness, strainer ect. Did the install myself. Had a little guidance form the marina I bought it from, pretty straightforward nothing to complicated, but definatly time comsuming. The hardest part (mentally anyway) was cutting a 2 1/4" hole in the side of the hull and a 1" thru the bottom. (You know the old saying measure twice cut once.... I measured like 6 times and cut once.)
After 2 seasons of the convienece of AC power anywhere anytime, we couldnt be happier with the decision to go this route. we have a 45 minute no wake run down the river to the bay, on the way back the Admiral can shower and blow dry and curl her hair and be ready to go as soon as we get to the marina.... (for those like me that get impatient waiting for your wife to get ready......that all by itself was worth the price of admission)
We have spent several days on an inland lake with no marinas and there is just no beating having the convienence. I know we will not have another boat without it.
