The switches on the SL262 are nice, aluminum ones - I would look at those. 2 buttons. One up, one down. I thought they looked very well done.

Yeah, those look nice and the bullet style buttons would match the ones on my dash. Found a picture on the Four Winns site. Only problem I see for my boat is they have a fairly large footprint. I wish they made that same switch in a single switch with a "toggle" function.

Am I missing something here?

I would like to have a transom mounted switch for anytime I am on the "hard" so i don't have to uncover the boat or climb aboard to activate it at the helm so.... Has anybody thought about just installing a SPDT toggle switch on the inside of the outdrive tunnel wall ? Splice it into the trim pump feeds and and install a weather proof boot and you are good to go! No expensive switch to buy, or to look at on the transom.

Some may say that I am being too thrifty but really this seems alot more practical. If say you have forgotten the OD down while loading (or it's not all the way up) You would just hit the switch while you are doing up the transom straps.

Too simple? Or am I missing something?

I'm gonna have to say that although I appreciate the thriftyness of your idea a switch like that would be way to easy to accidentally trip. I'm not sure they would hold up in a marine enviornment either. Just my 2 cents.

Kind of what I did - I bought the 'no frills/no back plate' switch off of ebay:

As I recall it was $19. when I bought it last year, looks like they're asking $27 now. Should do what I want it to do.

What about the toggle switch on the 262 that connects the electric rear facing seat that folds out? I think it's a slide toggle.

check out the FW website and you'll see the switch in some of the pics off the transom walk through

After reading this thread I got the transom switch put on my boat. All I can say is thank you, thank you, thank you. It is awesome. I would say this is the "killer application" of the season for me. I can't say how many times in the past I've had to unsnap the cover and climb into the boat to raise or lower the leg. The switch is a great idea that actually works well.

No fuel problems if you just float. Bugger that, I'm burning fuel this season.

Nobody has asked me for pictures in over forty years so thank you I guess. You meant the boat of course. I got the Merc kit which is the same as shown on page 3 of this thread on Aquaholic’s trim photos. The switch sits on the port side just below the mooring cover.

BTW - Nauti Luv – I like that boat name. I wanted to name our boat “My Woman” on account I like my women wet but the Admiral doesn’t see the humour in that.

Well, Nauti is self explanatory...water.
The "Luv" is because my wife works at Southwest Airlines and their home airport if LUV Field in Dallas.

Put it together and we got some Nauti Luv. I have to admit though...I didnt come up with this name myself.

Reviving an old thread here for a project I would like to do.

How does the VP switch mount (no screws like on the Merc)? Just use the 3m or are their screws from the back side?

Also, is the VP plug an play as far as the wiring? The part picture show a round connector (and some wires to the side) yet some posts show some crimp connectors.

Use the merc part, I have referenced the correct part # multiple times, it is plug and play....

The VP switch body has a large diameter molded plastic shaft on the back, with a plastic or nylon nut. So you drill one hole (about 3/4" but that's an approximation) for the mount, wire access, etc. It's designed to be plug & play but mine wasn't according to the dealer. They had to cut & splice it in after spending quite a bit of time on the phone with Volvo. However, since then quite a few people have installed the same switch and found it to be plug & play, leading me to think my dealer was missing something all along.
