Hi folks,

I thought it might be interesting to show some of the systems we use to get our boats up and out of the water. I'm on Georgian Bay in Ontario, and the wind and storms can come out of nowhere, so we need a system that can lift our 2003 Sundowner 205 and keep it out of harms way overnight or when we're not around. We have a marine railway made by Naylor Systems, powered by an old (but reliable) 5 hp. tug winch. Given the nasty winters, I have to haul most of it and out each spring and fall - it seems to get heavier every year!

So, what systems do others use?

Nice. Railway, a nice solution. Winnisquam Marine had an awesome lift when I was there - Aluminum, Hydraulic, Remote Control, Solar Charged and Battery Powered. Ahh man it was awesome but a little out of my league.
I use my trailer since I have a launch right on my back yard. A pain but not as much as trailering to the lake I guess so I should be grateful.
I dont have one of these but if I could take my pick I would have one of these bad boys . . .

I am one of the people that is able to keep the boat at my house. I live right on the lake (but not allowed to have a dock), so I have to trailer to a ramp to put in. Its ok though...they are only 10 minutes from my house tops. I wish I could get away with something in the way of a dock...railway system, regular covered slip...something! We live on a Corp lake, so they have all the control.

No, it's not you. It is extreme . . . but wow. Completely hidden hoisting - no davits, exposed framework, slings etc. They work with horizontal hydraulic rams and cables hidden in the posts. About as slick as it gets. I enquired about one and a basic system that looks like a post dock for a 25' boat 7500k lift capacity was in the neighborhood of $25k.
Comon 6/49.
The rail system looks like a nice solution though especially if I can get my permit for a boat shed.

Hoist on the left. Old fashioned man power...

It previously held my Boston Whaler about 8 years ago. In may we are going to re-cable it and get it all setup to get me thru the summer....

I keep my boat on lift with canopy rather than my boat house… I have a remote switch (like the one for garage door opener) so I can make the lift go up and down from our boat..... Just load people on the boat and push a remote switch down and off she goes. When we return, drive boat head in and push a remote switch up. These lifts are made to go up and down constantly so I never use tie line to my slip.

As seen in my avitar, just a regular man powered lift here. No canopy either. Actually have a boat house, but at the present time, it has a nice isandy beach in it. I've often thought of rigging up a roller arrangement to winch it up and in - might have to brainstorm on this a bit more.

Here's my solution. Bought the lift already in the slip from a previous owner. Keeps the boat much cleaner than last year when it was wet slipped and when we are on the boat in the slip we lower the lift until the boat is even with the dock. Makes for an easy step onto the rear of the boat. There is a dock box and small patio behind the boat.
