Cougar,
Myself and Woggy are headed up to Chicago this Friday night with our boats. What are you doing Saturday AM? I've got room on board for two more for the Chicago Loop Cruise....

Man - that's a sweet invite!

We just got into Chicago... at a Marriott by the airport. Tomorrow, we are going to Champaign/Urbana! REAL nice. I know.

As it turns out, we are going to meet some friends downtown around 4pm on Saturday.

I don't know if the loop cruise is an all day thing or how it works... I know the weather should be pretty good.

If we can make the times work - we are definitely in. If it's an all day stretch, we'll have to pass since we have to meet some friends at 4.

What a sweet invite! let me know...

In Chicago, if you want pizza, there is Lou Malnetti's, Gino's East, and the original Pizzerria Uno. Ed Debevic's is a fun old style diner where the waitresses are rude to you, as long as you know that's their deal, it can be a lot of fun. Of course there are tons of other great places as already mentioned.

In Cadillac, there is a great bistro downtown on Bus 131 (Mitchell St). There are a bunch of fast food joints on the north end of town near Meijer's, Walmart, etc (close to the factory) on Boon Rd (E 34 Rd). The factory is off of 13th St just west of Mitchell St. It's an industrial area, but not hard to see all the boats. If I recall, there are 3 or 4 different buildings. I can't see why they couldn't take you through all of them. I think Cadillac is 4-4.5 hours from Chicago, so it will be a long day if you're going there and back to Chicago in 1 day.

Shoot me a pm if you need any info/help on Cadillac. I only live <1 hour from there. Sounds like a great trip...Have fun :!:

Thanks! We're going to have to find a sport for a quick lunch... I think we may have a winner.

Any idea what the Bistro downtown is called?

Let me know what you need. I grew up in Cadillac and am up at Four Winns at least once every other week.

Good restaurants on Cadillac are:
Timbers - on M-115 just a little north west of the plants - 5535 State Route 115
Kodiak's Deli - right on the main drag - 112 North Mitchell Street

Have fun. Cadillac will be about a 5 - 5 1/2 hour drive.

While your in Cadillac, stop by Lakeside Charlie's. Built by Charlie Winn and now owned and run by his son in law Kevin. It is a great restaurant on Lake Mitchell.

Lakeside Charlies
301 S Lake Mitchell Dr, Cadillac, MI 49601 (231) 775-5332

The guys at the factory can give you directions.

I forgot to add things to do.

If your up for Chicago Style Pizza, head up to "The Silo" in Lake Bluff, it's about a 45 minute drive north of where your staying. And well worth it. I took my wife up to Chicago for our honeymoon, and stayed at The Drake. Part of that weekend we went up where I grew up, about five minutes from The Silo in Lake Forest. Every time we go near there we HAVE to go there...its that good.

The Spirit of Chicago dinner cruise is great, we did it on our honeymoon and our one year anniversary. Walk around Navy Pier, down the Magnificient mile, and you can't go wrong. Definatly head up to the top of the Sears or John Hancock also...

I went to High School in Lake Forest, and can second the recommendation on "the Silo". Man, that is great pizza, may have to journey up there again soon. Also the Palm restaurant I mentioned is in the lower level of the Drake Hotel.

Small world! My brothers went to LFHS, graduated in '87, and '88. I went to Libertyville HS, class of '03. We'll be up in that area next weekend with one of my brothers, and leaving for the Loop Cruise here in a few...

Have fun on the Loop Cruise. Weather should be good, except for the wind. But that should not be too bad where you are boating.

Washn't able to connect with Woggy or FireCadet for the loop cruise. I'm excited to hear how that went for them!

Back in Chicago from Michigan. Man, that's a drive up there!

Went to Timbers for lunch yesterday -- thanks for the recommendation!

More details to come from the tour... although, I can't post pics as they are pretty tight lipped about their stuff. I will try to get a couple 'approved' and then post them soon.

Tour was awesome! Those guys up there sure know what they are doing! It's amazing how much of the boats are still built by hand!

Quick break for the NFL draft, then it's out for an evening in Chicago. Anyone ever heard of 'Volare' - it's an Italian restaurant off Grand and a couple blocks up from Michigan Ave?

I pulled out some pictures and am putting them together to send over to FW to see if they will 'approve' me posting them. Hopefully, early next week.

I'll be putting together a little 'trip report' this weekend seeing as how I'm not on the boat even though the weather is stunning! Thanks admiral.

In the meantime, for those that have not been to the plant, and have not seen this before. Here is a little bit from the tour courtesy, of you know who.

For some reason I only see the text and the picture boxes... I've tried this link before and didn't have success. Anybody else seeing pictures?
