I'm usually the last guy to complain about the cost of things. But, I just bought a new impeller for my 2007 Merc 350 Mag MPI for $30 from our local Merc dealer. Not the kit. No gaskets, housing assemblies, etc. Just the damned rubber impeller. For $30.

Seriously. $30. For a piece of rubber. WTF?!!!!!!!

My VP was listed at @ $40 came with a gasket and lube. I guess the lube is so it doesnt hurt as much. My backup impeller is made by Johnson. Price on that box is $24.

You're right and that is exactly why I'm doing it. Just a little griping. :D

I found parts of my impeller in almost every hose, t-stat, risers on the exhaust and small burns on the flappers from the exhaust. Funny thing was I had a spare to put on in the garage.

How long ago did yours fail? Old age? Did you suck up some sand/mud?

It was a few years back. I think the impeller was 3 years old. Now I change it every season. My neighbor went for 12 yrs on his Johnson outboard. I guess he was lucky. This season I replaced the seal on the pump because it was leaking. $9 tiny seal.

I'm cheap: $200/hour. So I guess that would be about 9 minutes. :D

I ordered one prior to the season for the Volvo and it was $44. That's one hell of an expensive rubber.
But I guess if it protects my dinghy than its worth it.
