Hi guys - We're planning to start our trip this year with a 90 mile trek from Toronto to Trenton along the north shore of Lake Ontario - we have a Sundowner 205 with a 5.0 L.

Everything depends a little on weather and wind conditions, and I'm assuming that I'll have to pull in at least once for gas, but does anyone have any sense of how long a trip like this might take?

Thanks!

I guess I am not understanding what you are asking. We cruised 140 miles across the North Channel in the exact same boat as you have in 7 1/2 hours with one fuel stop. The lake was glass though. As you know...bad weather will add time or even make the trip not worth going depending on the severity.

But 90 miles, you should not have to make a fuel stop at all. At 3000 RPMs mine cruised at 31 mph and burned 8 gallons per hour. At 31 mph you should be there in under 3 hours.

Thanks - that's actually very helpful.

This will be our first long trip in this boat, and I'm just not sure how much time it might take to get this distance, having done mostly short day-trips and cruises in the past. My last boat had a pretty big engine but a tiny gas tank (12 gallons), so I was always planning any outing on the basis of how far I was from a marina!

I'm also mindful of the wind and weather - hoping for flat calm conditions, but unlikley to get it and my wife really gets displeased when the pounding starts! 3000 rpm would be great to average, but we'll see

Thanks again for the help

Remeber the rule of 1/3

1/3 to get there
1/3 to get back
1/3 for reserve
