Alot cheaper and easier to drop a mega led in the drain hole.

Saw the reference to my post on the cupholder LEDs. Thought I'd point out that the cupholders I modified are white plastic, not stainless. I'm sure that a superbright led in the side or drain hole would work well with the SS cup holders also - probably just not as bright. If someone wanted to send me a SS cup holder, I'd be happy to play and post some comparison pics.

OK, I just pulled the trigger. I bought 4 of the 9.5" LED strips like Impulse used from Oznium, and 2 cupholders from ebay (link a few posts up in this thread - posted by Tjxole2) - all in blue. I don't think I'll need the cupholders in the cockpit, since the led strips will light that part of the boat. I'm planning to put the cupholders in the bow, to give some light up there. This way I don't have to drill anything, and I get some matching blue light in the bow. I also got the remote that has the dimmer on it (again from Oznium), so I can control the intensity of the lights. I'm not particularly interested in having a strobe light show in the boat, but I really like the dimmer idea. Not sure how it will turn out, but I'll post some pics when it's done.

Thanks for your help.

You'll love it. I got to use mine for the first time on the water this weekend. The others that were with us commented several times how much they like the "new led" lights. I didn't add a dimmer, just one more thing to mess with, but I was worried about the brightness. Turns out they are just the right amount of light. I'm very happy with this mod.

Off-subject a bit:

I'd like to put that same Sony head unit into my '97 H200 and wonder if yours is factory installed. I fear I might need the black backing plate that is behind it to cover the existing opening. I've not seen the Sony in person and it appears to be non-DIN sized. Can you comment?

Thanks,

Bill

To my eye that backing plate looks like standard black starboard - a plastic material often used in boat construction that's easy to modify with common wood working tools. Should be easy enough to fabricate the equivalent yourself.

My boat has the same black backing...its doesnt appear to be the starboard material, but rather a piece of black lexan plastic. At any rate, it is factory installed stuff and should be available from a local plastics shop.

Bill - This was factory installed. I was thinking that plate was metal, but not sure now. I'll check it next time I get in the boat. Which should be this thursday. Just put it away today.

Since Weather was not decent the early part of July 4th long weekend so I had a chance to complete our LED project for our 260. They are Ozunium Flexible LED lights (blue)….. We are very pleased the way they came out….. Only wish to keep bugs away when we are not moving…. They tend to attract them...

Now you just need to build some zapper grids in front of each light position ........

Excellent job Koji!

The weather was crappy here except for July 1 and the late afternoon of the 5th. Only managed to put 1 hour on the boat and I was off for five days straight!

I've started building the wiring harness for my led project, and just bought some honest to god fish tape aka cable snake. If I don't get to it this weekend, the start of a 9 day begins the next. Hope bugs aren't attracted to red lights - couldn't believe the kamakazi moths going after the kids' sparklers on the 4th, never seen the like, and we do the sparkler thing every year.
