[quote="KSJ08"]I almost lost my anchor, the clevis bolt fell out just after I brought it up on board  . I safety wired it when I got home.[quote]

I have all of mine zip tied. I even have my anchor zip tied to my chain and my chain zip tied to my rode in hopes that if I ever lose a shackle that the zip tie may be enough for me to retrieve my anchor. Don't know if it will work, but I figure at least I tried.

I lost my favorite pair of Rx Ray Bans to the bottom of Lake Okoboji when a buddy tipped me over as I lounged on a floatie. I did manage to keep a handle on my beer and continued drinking after I came back up from underwater...just no shades.

As it is now I have a new pair of Oakley Rx's I got 3 weeks ago that I just can't bring myself to wear boating.

I also transfer valueables (keys, key fobs, wallet, phone, camera) to the boat glove box before we launch. I put on a spare truck key with a floatie (and no fob) to start the vehicle back up to launch.

We do the same thing. My wife actually locks the keys inside the truck (on purpose). We keep a single truck key, on a floatie inside the boat glove box. When we get to the ramp and begin to ready the boat (transom straps, blower kid life vests), we put the wallets, phones etc inside the boat glove box so there is no chance they get dropped in the water while boarding at the courtest dock etc...

My buddy lost a pair of $200.00 sunglasses this weekend....not a happy camper.

My cell phone gets such poor reception at any of the lakes around here that I don't even pull it out. I have a fanny pack that pretty much has everything in it. That goes in the glove box before we back down. The keys I leave in the truck under the matt as there is a keypad lock on the outside.

Two years ago our lake took a pair of my wife's brand new prescription sunglasses. Last year I watched a guy jump off our swim deck with his glasses on and come up without them. He was visiting his parents (our neighbors) from San Diego so he didn't have a spare and couldn't see jack without them.

My buddy is a Captain in our Fire Department and also heads up the dive squad. He owns a Lakeview houseboat a few slips away from us. He is diving at least once or twice during the summer recovering keys and other items from around the marina. Everyone knows where to find him when they lose something. posting.php?mode=reply&f=2&t=4016#

Last year my wife lost a brand new pair of Gucci RX sunglasses. They blew right off her head and into the lake wile underway. Fortunately we used our credit card to pay for the glasses (about $400.00). American Express replaced them under their "new purchase" product coverage. Something to remember next time you lose something overboard. The insurance does not cover loss but since we knew exactly where they were (bottom of Lake Mohave) American Express accepted the claim.

Lost an anchor once due to a snag on the spinning rope holder-as the anchor dropped it ripped the rope holder out of my hand. That sucked!

Lost a nice pair of Oakley sunglasses 3 years ago in a cove. I went back the next week with a snorkel and "reclaimed" them. Still have them. :D

My 2 year old likes to throw things when he gets frustrated. So we bring broken toys for him to play with on the boat. This weekend's casualty was a Mickey Mouse car with a missing wheel. Last time he "lost" a spiderman figure with one arm.

We lost a brand new beach towel a few weeks ago. It sank too quickly to pick up...

I have found a lot more than I have lost though. Several great fenders, life jackets, diving mask, beach bucket, cushions, sunglasses, (that I subsequently gave back to the deep) and toys.

Dropped mine in while launching the boat, last weekend (idiot, had it in the breast pocket....). Was just in a foot and a half of water (unhooking the winch strap from the bow-eye). Gave the requisite "oh crap!" and quickly fished it out .... dropped it again, and fished it again ....

It was off, so I thought it may not be total doom & gloom. Opened it up, took the battery out and set it in the sun for a couple hours. In the end, it's fine.

So far my oldest daughter lost a pair of Juicy sunglasses and I dropped a fork and knife that the Admiral was handing to me. But the best was on the 4th when some weekend warriors came in to the marina after a bunch to many and one guy dropped his beer and glasses as he was trying to get out of the boat and then followed them both in thinking he could get them.

Boating is the reason I have insurance on my cell phone now. I had one of those cell phone ear pieces that had a cord which connected to my phone and, you guessed it, I got the cord caught on something and the cell phone popped out of it's case right into the lake. I had just signed a new 2 year contract so I was screwed.

I do use reg Oakley's too...but that's because I'm a wuss in bright sunlight. but I've found the floatie attachment you can get for shades to be invaluable piece of mind. Albeit irritating around the back of the neck it's piece of mind if I do misstep my shades will still float until recovered.

It was cheap but I can add one strap from the tube keeper. Daughter was a playing away on tube as we were anchored. Go to bring it back in and strap it down and lo and behold one strap is a missing. I look at my daughter and ask "honey, what happened to the strap?"

All I get in response was a shoulder shrug and a sheepish frown looking away. I didn't press the issue cause I knew she learned a lesson about stuff that doesn't float. The look on her face was priceless cause she knew she was busted.

Fwiw...I'm getting a kick out of this thread.

I agree Mike, this thread has some great reading....

to add to the stories, not this year and not me...some background, I work in the wireless industry and often times have many spare phones from testing purposes. I used to be able to keep the phones and use them as I wanted (starting to see where this is going yet?). So my old boss was fairly new to boating and going out every available weekend. In a matter of a month, he depleted my whole inventory of phones into the lake. Not thinking that he would lose that many phones, as I got to my last one, I leant it to him thinking he wouldn't be boating as he had stated mentioned other plans for that weekend. Of course I didn't give him the 'Dont drop this one in the lake, it's my last phone' line. Monday moring comes around and i ask jokingly 'You didn't drop this one in the lake, did you?'. Of course, he had another casualty. I would have thought after the first 1 or 2 phones, he would have got a zip lock bag or similar :? Needless to say, that was the last that I 'leant' him any phones.
