Lake Lewisville where I boat is probably an average of about 20-25 feet deep. I think max depth is about 55 feet in spots.

When we boat on Lake DuBay (also part of the WI River), the water is the same color. I think anything connected to the river is like this.

The lake in the picture below is about 5 feet deep on average with crystal clear water.

The lake we normally boat in is over 90' in areas and visible down to about 10'.

[/quote]Yes Georgian Bay is very beautiful but damn the water is cold! I just did a three day trip in the last week of June from Port Elgin up to Tobermory and around the islands up north of Tobermory. We covered 180 miles and the average water temperature was 58-60 degrees with the warmest we saw was about 63. It was hot out so you wanted to swim but just dipping a foot in cured that thought! Check out Cove Island if you ever get up that way. Great lighthouse and island worth exploring.[/quote

This summer has been a disaster so far (still waiting for it to show up!), so the water temps are about a month behind. Even on the east side of the Bay around Midland, the water is only about 70 in some of the smaller coves.

70 degrees is bathwater around here. We swam almost all day last Sunday in Lake Michigan and it was 68 degrees, it was great !

I am familiar with castlerock, petenwell and where we have out camper in plover but have no experience by the dells. So from you experience is there plenty of navigable water there to see the sights? what about resturants or bars to dock at for lunch/dinner? Do you know if you can launch at holiday shores w/o camping there?

Castlerock is much bigger area to boat, but the river is very interesting to go through. Not sure if they will allow use of there launch or not. Have to call them. I was told there is another launch near town. Don't think there is really any places to stop to eat or anything, but there are some nice sand beachs you can stop at and hang out.
