Hi -
We just received our 2002 298 Vista and have a few questions. 8)

On the control panel on the wall in the cabin there is a System 1 - System 2 toggle switch. Does anyone know which we are supposed to be on. When on shore power on System 1 it shows the AC draw in volts - when on system 2 it doesn't but everything seems to work on either system or when it is in the middle which I presume is both?

In the head there is a toggle switch that says FLUSH - should this be left on all the time or switched on and off as a flush is required. We have been leaving it on but the switch seems to get quite warm.

Our fresh water and waste measure is reading 0 despite being filled with water - is there something we can do to make this work correctly that is fairly simple.

Any ideas for mounting a flat panel tv other than in the tv cabinet?

Thanks so much

I can't be terribly helpful...

I don't think the system switch on the electrical panel does anything more than show you what's going on with either the AC system or the rest of the electrical system. You have two shore power inlets so I think they just show the activity for the two different systems.

My waste and water indicators don't work either, never have in the 4 years I've had the boat. I just ignore it. Not easy to see being located in the head down low. Weird placement anyway.

My '99 has a switch that turns on the vacuflush pump. We turn it off if we are not going to be on the boat, otherwise we leave it on. I've never noticed it get warm. We flush our toilet via a foot lever.

Hope you enjoy our 298! We really enjoy ours and will be spending another night on her tomorrow!

I too have a 298 and will try to help.

System 1 is the shore power, System 2 is the AC Generator (if installed).

The head toggle switch for Flush turns on the VacuFlush vacuum pump. This must be on and completed its vacuum cycle before flushing (you will hear the pump running for @ 45-60 seconds and then stop. I always turn it off when I'm not using the head. The heat from the switch is the bulb from the Contour Switches - they all get warm when activated. The new switches have LEDs.

The fresh water and waste measurement reading 0 is very common given that the XinTex senders are bad. This same company has designed new Pneumatic Liquid Level Monitors that will have a less chance of clogging. If like my system, it is a two wire system that is compatible with the style. I have yet to replace mine but will be doing this boating season. You need to order by length and the new style should be 1 inch shorter.

No ideas on the mounting of a TV - I have a flat panel 15" that is in the cabinet. Another project is to have a swivel mount added that would swing it out of the cabinet for viewing at any direction in the cabin.

Hope this helps - enjoy the boat!

Do you know what the Low Level Lighting - Night Light switch in the cabin works? It doesn't seem to turn anything on even when the breaker is on.

How difficult is it to install the new sensors for the water and waste? Do you buy them from Four Winns or aftermarket?

Thanks

All the same problems here with my 05.
My system 2 switch shows voltage available for the ac/heat system when hooked up to shore power. Not sure what it does with the generator system as I don't have one either.
The low level light switch on mine by the galley door is a 'main' switch for the v-berth overheads and the fluorescent over the v-berth mirror. There should be a second switch on the side of the galley cabinet facing the v-berth. This second switch will only operate the lights if the switch by the door is on.

Haven't installed new sending units yet but plan to in the near future. I'm planning to go with aftermarket external units but unfortunately I don't think they are compatible with existing gauges so the whole system will be replaced.

We too turn off the vacuflush switch when not in use and it does get warm when on but thats only from the light bulb.

Enjoy your 298... it's a great boat.
