Sometimes when starting the engine the steering wheel will shake back and forth maybe a half inch in each direction making a clicking sound. It never seems to happen after it has run for a few minutes and goes away if I move the wheel a few inches in either direction. I cannot figure out what it causing it. Any ideas?

This happens to me if I put the boat in gear while the lower unit is trimmed up a bit. Not sure why but it never happens when the lower unit is all the way down. Scared me to death the first time it happened. 98 Horizon w/5.7 GSi

It only happens to me when it is in neutral, and it doesn't happen all the time.

Glad to hear that it wasnt just me, mine did that last Sunday (in neutral with trim up pretty high). I initially thought we were bouncing on the sandy bottom, we were in about 3 foot of water and idleing back out. (98 245 Sundowner,SX- 5.7 gsi)
