Quick question.

I bought a new VP thermostat, and just verified it is the correct part #. I'm used to thermostats sitting at the bottom of the housing, right on top of the engine block. This thermostat is too small to do that, but it can fit all the way up inside the thermostat housing. Is that where it really goes? 5.7Gi-E

Got it figured out. Its a WAY different design than my truck. It goes all the way up into the housing, O-ring after it to hold it in place.

I have the same situation. I was told the thermostat goes in the top of the housing (upside down from the typical auto application) but I haven't confirmed that yet. There is a recess inside the top of the housing though. I was inclined to think that with the two cork gaskets that came with the stat would it would all fit in the recess. I have some cleaning to do in there first though, hence the delay in confirmation.

It goes in the top of the housing, then the O-ring fits in after it to lock it in place. Kind of messed up way to do it, but apparantly it works!

This is actually an OMC design that Volvo kept after they bought out the sterndrive part of OMC...pretty much all 80s and 90s OMCs had this same design for the thermostat housing on the V-6s/V-8s...works just fine once you figure out that it's the little ring holding it in there...sometimes on older boats used in salt water there is so much corrosion in there you can't even see the rubber ring...
