I do this:

(insert photo here ...unfortunately, I did not get any photos of the moment)

Let's see who gets it before the punch line comes .....

Grandson is playing keep-away with me at the baording ladder ... as it is about time to get going, and he sees that if I get out of the water, that means we are done and time to go. After about 5-minutes of this, I am obviously still playing, but I am ready to get out of the water and start getting things taken care of. I guess I got careless and was not paying attention to just what I was doing and ended up kicking the prop as I was squirming around at the ladder, with him.

Yup .... just knew that this was not going to be good .....

Got up on the swim platform and it was instantly filled with red.

Imagine taking a big ol' chef's knife and hacking it across someones foot ... as if you were trying to whack off half the foot. Yeah ..... that's it.

OK, which towel do you want bloody and go get the first aid kit......

Been there, done that.
Got the scar to prove it.

Kicked mine so hard the prop rang like a bell!

Luckily, I was able to slow the bleeding and get the boat back, with my foot up on the dash.

There were some other people at the launch, so I got a ride to the truck/trailer then some others loaded the boat on the trailer. I was already bleeding through and had wrapped more dressings and tape around my foot and put a plastic bag around it, to keep the blood off the truck & boat as I had to botton up a few things and then drive home.

Fortunately, we were just at the smaller local lake (Great East Lk) and were just about 4 miles from home.

Didn't really start to hurt (in a HURT type of way) until they removed all the dressings and compression to have a look-see.

Luckily, it does not look like I fully cut through any tendons (although, the doctor said a couple were hit). a few internal stitches and a bunch of external .... and some crutches (no thanks, I already have some .... sheesh, what does THAT tell ya?).

oh. owe. Hurts to read, as everyone noted. A painful reminder. Our neighbor nearly cut their "shoulder" on one of our blades when swimming around the dock after we tore up the prop on a rock (the edges were like razors) and before we pulled the boat. I didn't think it would cut so terribly on a nice clean prop edge. Best wishes on the recovery.... we'll be thinking about you, and thx for the safety reminder.

Ernie
