Well sort of.......... It's called the V285. The Four Winns V278 is now the New V285. Same stable V hull and running surface with a new name for 2010, the V285.

So this makes the 3rd generation for the venerable V268 hull. Not sure why they changed the number designation, but they did.

There is a little article on Boattest about it, but pictures look like a 2009 V278 to me.

*Edit: changed thread title

Just guessing, new V285 named for LOA, which is 28'4". Maybe catching up with other builders who are re-naming/classifing boats based on LOA that includes the ESP.

The V series is getting numerical changes for 2010 in order to compare better with the competion for us sales people at the dealerships.... the S series is no longer being made so that leaves the "5" designator open to use....

V278 = V285
V318 = V335
V338 = V355
V358 = V375

The V408 and V458 will be changed as well. The V288 and V378 are out for 2010.

And there is a new Cabana Hard top available on the new V335, V355 and V375.... very nice!!

I have seen the hardtops, and they do look nice. FW started shipping 2010's in August, so we should start seeing more and more of them at dealers soon. Can't wait.

I have seen the cabana top on 318 hull #1.... it's a nice looking unit.

Of course, my first question was if our current boats are upgradeable. Short answer, yes - but you need all new canvas.

Maybe a new 335 buyer will want to trade for the old style arch. :D

"the S series is no longer being made"; so, no more Sundowners? So what FW do I buy next? I don't want a Cruiser with a microwave/ 4 beds/ 1000kg more than I need to haul around etc, A bowrider isn't suitable for the water conditions where I boat.

Shame, I think it must be a Doral, Cobalt or some obscure Polish or Italian boat next.

Its just to push people into cruisers. I think its a shame also, as the Sundowner series was a GREAT line of boats.

Yeah, that looks about right.

The one thing my wife didn't like was how the heck the cockpit tv will mount without hurting the lines of the arch.

and the stubby back begs to keep that canvas mounted there.... I asked them how they were going to support the back canvas and they said it will be self supporting. I wish they would have spent more cycles providing an integrated design rather than those support poles (look lame to me).

It becomes less of a 'sunny day' boat and definitely more of an all weather boat.

They also chose to powedercoat the grab handles on the side... I would have liked to see them continue to be stainless.

I have some other nitpicks, but overall, it looked good on the 318 hull.

interesting. seems like a lot of weight floating up there even with support poles - especially when your breakin' off seven and eight footers! so what fills in the cut-outs?

Smoked acrylic. I don't think they'll put glass there.
