Ahh.....Vent plug?

That link above should answer the question....

You also have a drive lube reservoir and if you decide to change your own drive lube be sure to use Mercury HP drive oil (the synthetic stuff).

Get yourself a copy of Mercury Service manual #11.

Or go to http://www.boatfix.com/merc/mainmenu.pdf for the manual online. Also don't forget to have a look at all the service bulletins too for info on your model drive.

Cheers,

Rick

CHanging it tomorrow night and using Amsoil marine gear lube after talking with some other Baja owners.

Well. ok.

I have tried Amsoil lubricants in other things. I'm sure they're fine.....over priced, but fine......... I don't like multi-level marketing companies though......

But in my Bravo, I'll put Mercury HP drive lubricant (Mercury HP oil might even be provided by AMSOIL......Evidently Volvo Synthetic drive oil is...) (I'll add that Mercury is VERY adamant about using Mercury HP drive Lube in a Bravo....the difference in price between it and Amsoil is probably not significant....and there's at least one Mercury trained mechanic over on iBoats that uses Mobil 1 synthetic gear oil in his Bravo.......

Your mileage may vary......Oil with most people is an emotional thing.....

As my dad used to say......"Let your conscience be your guide"

Just ensure that you follow the instructions in Mercury #11. Fill it from the bottom etc...

Regards,

Rick

EDIT: I did a little reading on the AMSOIL marketing website and they've got quite a bit of info on their claims for their Universal Synthetic Marine Gear Lube. It's also got a $9.65 retail price. I used to get Amsoil from a friend (dealer) that sold it to me for his price +(shipping etc) and it was a pretty good deal......so if you can get it for a dealer price it might be a pretty good deal. Even if you buy a 5 gallon pail the price comes out to $9/qt. .... so if you could get it a little cheaper than their advertised retail price it might be a lot cheaper than the Merc HP stuff.

Why would it matter what other Baja owners say...last time I checked Mercury made the outdrive...not Baja. Always like to use what is recommended by the company that makes the product.
