So I finished winterizing today. And have a few questions.

Changed the oil/filter, Fuel filter, Changed the drive lube, Flush with anifreeze, water system, drain head.

The oil seemed to take forever to seep back to the pan so I could get the last qt. out. 10-15 minutes. Yes, it was warm...
Do you guys figure you get all 5.5 Qts out? I put 5.5 back in but it's to the top of the full mark now.

When pumping in the drive lube from the drain how do you know when to quit? I put in 2.25 qts and it still showed none on the stick.
Once I started the engine and ran it for a few min it then showed on the stick????
Where was it before???

The fuel fileter was on SOOOOOOOO tight I had to destroy it with a filter plier to get it off.
Is that normal or was it just stuck??

Do I have to drain anything in the drive??

I will pull the drive in the spring and check the alignment/ Bellows.
Does the mercruiser tool work on the VP by chance?

I ended up sticking with my past method and draining the AF back out once I flushed. Juat to be sure on the 5.7GI-E there are on 4 drains right? Each side of the block and 2 risers?
I also drained the 2 lower hoses tha go to the impeller. Did I miss anything?

Thanks

When filling, remove the plug behind the plastic cowling, next to where the shift cable attaches. When fluid just spills out of that, you're done.

I've said this before...at the risk of repeating myself..if you have a raw water cooled sterndrive...sucking AF up the drive is just not needed...or more importantly NOT the right way to use AF....if you want to use AF for corrosion protection....DRAIN MANUALLY...AND BACKFILL WITH -100 AF

The oil seemed to take forever to seep back to the pan so I could get the last qt. out. 10-15 minutes. Yes, it was warm...

[bIt's tough to get it all out...I have never been able to get the listed capacity out when pumping with the vaccum pump...but I have a gallon jug marked in 1 qt increments...I start with the engine full....measure what comes out...and put that amount back in.....that avoids over-filling...[/b]

Can't say on this one...I have an OMC....

The fuel fileter was on SOOOOOOOO tight I had to destroy it with a filter plier to get it off.

You need to put a good coating of motor oil on the rubber gasket and just hand tighten...tighten till the gasket touches the filter base then 3/4 to 1 turn more...

Do I have to drain anything in the drive??
You mean water...I don't know about Volvos but you need to lower it all the way so whatever was in the water intakes and exhaust drains out...my Cobra has 3 drains on the pivot housing you have to drain..

I will pull the drive in the spring and check the alignment/ Bellows.
Does the mercruiser tool work on the VP by chance?

I think you should do that now...because if there was a leak in the bellows....the water will rust your gimble and ujoints all winter...also you can see if there is a leak on your input shaft seal and get it fixed over the winter...and as far as I know...the Merc....OMC Cobra and SX Volvos all use the same alignment tool....I have the Sierrra one that fits all 3....Keep in mind that these 3 all use the same transom cut out pattern....so the gimble bearing and transom mounts are all in the same place.... And the reason why they are the same....well at one time Merc OMC and Volvo were all different from one another...then when OMC designed the Cobra they realized they would sell more drives if the same cut out could be used as was standard wtih Merc...then...OMC and Volvo go into a joint venture...and the SX style drives...were based on the OMC Cobra transom mount/gimble design...which itself used the Merc pattern....that's why the same tool works for all three.....

I ended up sticking with my past method and draining the AF back out once I flushed. Juat to be sure on the 5.7GI-E there are on 4 drains right? Each side of the block and 2 risers?

Usually there is one drain on each side of the engine...but you need to remove the big hose on the front circulating pump because it holds a lot of water from the pump...usually one on each manifodl...and there is a power steering cooler that needs to be drained....some Volvos have it like the OMC Cobra...on the back of the engine in the raw water intake hose...if you drain down that hose in the bilge (hold it down as much as you can to get it to drain..then fill it with AF till it runs out the drive water intakes it will push water out of the cooler....that's how I do mine...there is a drain plug on it but it's very hard to get at...

Thanks
