i ended up running this year without a thermostat. i was having issue with overheating at the beginning of the year and ended up using a modified thermostat by sawing off the bottom part of the thermostat and just running it this year. i ordered a thermostat on line and the engine just kept over-heating. so instead of ordering yet other one i just ran without one. there didn't seem to be any issue, but i am going to get a new one for the beginning of next year.

two reasons... one was something clogged in the engine... i blew it out using the fresh water adapter and the other was a bad thermostat... so instead of ordering another thermostat i just ran the boat...

Well it's good you knew the cause...I'd want the stat in there because even if the stat is sticking open a little (common in salt water use where I am) the engine will run way too cold (like 120* instead of 160*) which really isn't good in terms of sludge build up etc...I wind up changing my thermostats about every 2 seasons because of that...sometimes they get sticky or a piece of rust or sand gets in there and stops it from closing enough to let the engine heat up to normal temps...
