Hey all...I have a 1997 FW 225 with all the options. I love it. It has the Corvette V-8 and daul-prop. Been working out a few bugs, but nice ride. My last boat, while newer, was not nearly as nice. I'm hoping to use the camper feature and enjoy this with my family.

What say you...?

Welcome. The 225SD should be a good boat for overnighting for a couple. Hmmm, I was not aware FW offered a Corvette engine as an option in 1997.
Love to see some pics.

Just up the road from me - I'm in Escondido. Where do you typically boat?

Cap'n Morgan (I prefer J.D. )= It has the 5.7 Chevy 350 V-8. This is the same engine in mid 90's Vette's and Chevy 1500 series trucks. Just set up a bit different. I like the rumble when it idles in drive way durring flush-out..... 8)

EvilZ: Just got the boat...been spending most of my time in the driveway fixing :? We plan to cruise mission bay this coming weekend if wheather is clear.

You're familiar with Mission Bay? It's nice, although much of it is speed restricted to 5mph...make sure you know where you can open it up because the Lifeguards and Coast Guard are VERY active....
You can pull up to Paradise Point and have a bite to eat and a "soda" at the Barefoot Bar and Grill.

Lots to see on San Diego Bay, although the ramp at Shelter Island isn't as good.

Let me know if I can offer any other info.

Enjoy!

Erik

Where is good place to launch/receive? Paradise point sounds nice, where is it. 5mph is fine with my 3 yr old son...never been out on boat yet, but I would like to know where I can open her up a bit.

By far the best ramp is at South Shores. Take the Sea World Drive exit from Hwy 5 and head west - you'll see signs for South Shores boat ramp on your right side maybe 1/2 mile from the freeway.

On the maps that I've linked, the fast zone is where the "Mission Bay/Fiesta Bay" text is - it's actually a pretty large area. Look for the buoys which which are directly across from Sea World. The main channel for Mission Bay is all slow.

Paradise Point is shown on one of the maps and is Vacation Isle on the other. They have a dock there which they shouldn't charge you for this time of year.

South Shores has restroom facilities and ample parking - no engine flushing facilities, however.

Also, if the seas are calm, taking the boat out past the channel is awesome. Heading south will have you at the Pt. Loma Kelp beds. Heading North will have you heading up towards Bird Rock and La Jolla. Don't try to cut through the kelp - you'll foul your prop. Go inside or outside them (maybe better for a follow-up trip...).

If you are a diver, it is a quick trip to Wreck Alley, home of several wrecks including the Yukon, a 360ft Canadian Destroyer.

Memories of boating in San Diego..... I lived in Pacific Beach for 15 years and O'side for 3.

Mission Bay got too boring for me. Too small, too many people and no wake zones everywhere. San Diego bay can be a spectacular tour! I took my boat to Avalon a few times.... I loved Catalina Island.

I used to also trailer out to Lake Martinez near Yuma, Big Bear and I loved Lake Arrowhead. Arrowhead is a short drive from Temecula!

Enjoy and post pics! Welcome to the forum.
