Hi guys,

Returning to base today I noticed that my V278's tachometer was showing 5000rpm as I got onto plain as opposed to the usual 4000rpm. Pulling back the throttel to the usual 3000rpm where the boat normally happy plains she sank back into the water. I stopped to check the props bit everything looked good. Temp was ok too. I got on the plain again and made it back travelling at 4k rpm without the temp rising more than normal. So whats making the engine run 1k rpm more than regular? Once I cut the engine the meter settled at 1000rpm so Im assuming/hoping its the meter at the helm thats the problem and not the engine. Anyone have any ideas or tips on what I can check?

Thanks
Oliver

Crappy Tach . Mine jumps around at times too. Sometimes it shows an erroneous number, could be higher or lower of what the actual RPM is. Just tap the face a couple of times, and it usually settles back in to normal. I would not worry about it unless it never reads correctly.

I have the same issue every so often. One punch to the gauge brings it back to normal!

There's a switch on the back that sets it for a V6 or a V8. Maybe its off just a hair?
