Hello All,

I am giving up my home port of Lake Cumberland to move to the Ohio river this summer. We are looking for a change of pace and are excited to do some distance trips up and down the river.

One thing we had at Cumberland was a towing package with a local tow boat operator. Basically you paid one flat rate and received unlimited towing for the year.

Does anyone know of such a thing on the Ohio river near Cincy? How does towing work out on the river? I feel much more comfortable knowing someone is available to come get me if we run into trouble.

Thanks,

No towing on the Ohio river near Cincinnati that I know of. Usually a lot of traffic though and there is a Coast Guard station. Unlike Cumberland usually cell service is good and you aren't typically far from civilization. Have a good anchor on board as there will be current on the river if you lose power you will want to throw the anchor to stop your drift.

If you are going to get a slip in a marina for the season ask them for advice. I would be curious as to what they would say.

I'm new to big water boating. Gonna do a lot in lake michigan, so that brings up the question-what do I do if I do break down?

BoatUS unlimited towing is what I use here on the Great Lakes
