Does anybody know how to access the front bilge pump on a V248? In the last two years I have had to replace the aft float switch as well as replacing the shower sump float switch twice. I expect that the forward one will let go next and it is usually at night while we are sleeping (Murphy at his best again). I have yet to locate it.
Thanks

If its like my 268, there is an access panel in the floor just outside the head door.

The manual that came with the boat covers everything from the 248 all the way up and does not show specific information other than schematics.

The hatch in the 248 outside the head leads to the shower sump.

There are circuit breakers for the aft bilge, forward bilge and shower sump. There is a second bilge pump/float switch in the aft section between two ribs. One in the lowest part of the bilge the other higher by the water heater. I assumed that they both were part of the rear bilge circuit, is the upper one really the “forward” bilge??

I have just finished running a new wire for my windlass from the stern to the bow and did not see any other bilge pump in the forecabin.

I have had my boat completely ripped apart, all I ever saw was only bilge pump in the engine bilge, and the shower bilge. Thats the only two in my owners manual as well.

But, remember that FW runs/uses standard wiring and breaker panel that may or may not go to anything. Lower cost in parts when they buy in bulk and use on several models.

But it does say " The forward bilge pump, available on certain models ......."

Your 248 is not one of those models, it does not have a forward bilge pump, as you now know. powellcrazy's comment about the switches at the helm is spot on, you have a switch for the forward bilge, and it is not connected to anything. On our prehistoric 268, the boat does have a forward bilge pump, activating the switch instantly turns the pump on, regardless of any water being present in the bilge. It is also equipped with a float switch like the aft bilge pump.

Thanks, I was comfortable in the fact that I could not find one but not enough that if I was wrong a sticky float switch would echo through out the cabin keeping us awake for hours.

The forward bilge circuit breaker is “hot” but I could not find its output devise.

I am actually thinking that it may be for that upper float/pump in the engine compartment. With the shrink wrap still on, the batteries removed I thought that it was best to tap into everyone’s knowledge.

As always thanks for everyone’s help.

Beachbob, do you have a forward bilge switch on the switch panel above the radio, the 268 does. If so just turn it on and follow the hum of the pump. The 268 forward bilge thru hull outlet is next to the shower sump thru hull outlet. The head sink thru hull is forward of the other two about four feet. There is also two more rearward in the engine compartment area.

How many thru hull are on the 248 on the starboard side?

On the Starboard side there are 4; two aft of the helm seat and two in the area of the Head.

I know that the discharge farthest aft is for the aft bilge, the two by the head are for the sink and one for the shower sump. I am unsure of the one aft of the helm and forward of the bilge dishsharge (don’t recall anything ever pumping out of it).

The anchor locker has its own on the bow.

Portside there are also four: one is for the A/C the other for the sink. The one farthest forward and the one farthest aft I have never noticed flowing.

I have one dash switch labeled "Bilge Pump".

The ones in the rear starboard and port are for the scuppers, in the channel of the engine cover, one on each front corner (if it is like the 268) Again if like the 268 the one forward part is for the scupper near the door going down to the cuddy.

By the sounds or it the 248 doesn't have a forward bilge. The 268 has a switch labeled "forward bilge"

Beachbob, did you ever figure out what the second float switch is for?
