SS owners, question for you:
*edit* to add info: Local dealer has a brand new 2007 200SS still in the showroom where it's been for 3 years. Yellow 200SS with black trailer, single axle, brakes, alloy wheels, stainless prop, sirius satelite. I've been eyeing this boat for a LONG time, but I'm still nervous spending the money in this economy. Boat has never seen water, no test drives.
V8 5.7 liter fuel injected motor (280 hp? I think it said Gi on the cover)
Silent choice exhaust
bow and cockpit covers and bimini top
Does $26k + tax/title/registration sound like a good price, a steal, or just OK? It's 3 years old but brand new full warranty applies. Looking at other boats, $26,000 seems low for all these options, but it is 3 years old/new.

Opinions? thanks!

Get more details and run it through NADA guides (200, 210, 220; stereo, tower, etc).
A volvo 5.7 could be as much as 320 ponnies. That would be a very good amount of power for any of the SS's. I wouldn't worry about a boat that has been on the lot a while. It depends on the local demographic. Mine could still be sitting on the lot at the 4mm of LOTO had I not hauled it off 2 1/2 yeas ago!

I just ran mine through the NADA, and saw it's worth about what I owe on it (used $32,515). I wouldn't try to wheel and deal until you could get a test drive with someone from the service department, or at the least a salesman you are comfortable answering your questions.

Good luck

SORRY!

How could I leave that out. It's the 200SS. Near as I can tell from looking around the web yesterday, the 5.7 liter Gi motor was either a 270 horse or 280 horse in 2007. Dealer says 280 for 2007, sounds correct. I guess the 5.0 and the 5.7 ratings went up every couple years. It's definitely the 5.7 motor, not the smaller one.

So out the door price of $28,000 for a 200SS with the 5.7 fuel injected motor, two covers, bimini top, 3-blade SS prop, Sirius Sat radio, snap-in carpet, driver and co-pilot seats have flip-up bolsters, shorty smoked windscreen, thru-hull docking lights, Silent Choice exhaust, single axle trailer with surge brakes and alloy wheels, 2-year warranty that I can bump to 4 year for $400.

Is $28k out the door a good price, just OK price, or a smoking deal on a new boat of this nature?

thanks!

If it helps you any it sounds like a god buy to me. I sold my 2007 H200SS last season for $25,200 and it had 140 hours on it. It had all the same options except mine had the 5.0L GXi 270 HP engine. Pretty sure in 2007 the 5.7L was 280HP as the dealer said.

Thanks 07200SS. I'm curious, did you ever GPS your top speed? I'm thinking the 280 horse won't be any faster than your 270 engine (maybe 1 mph). What did that boat of yours do top end?

Try and get all your safety gear, ropes, fenders, trailer accessories thrown in and run like hell. Sounds like a good deal!

I just ran what I can read from your description through the NADA website and came up with $22,990 for "used". I think the asking price is well in line with where it should be.

Agreed. Sounds like a good buy. make sure it's ready for the water when delivered. Maybe you can fanagle like $500 in water toys too? Always a good time to get as much as possible!

Don't expect a go-fast boat. Mine hits the rev-limiter at 53 mph by gps at only about 4 more inches of boat with an additional 50 hp.

I did GPS it once with empty boat (wife and I) and maybe quarter tank of fuel and got to 53.3MPH. Oh also I had removed the Bimini top.

Thanks to all who've replied so far! Been a big help. So the boat is a good buy, and has a decent top end. I live on a small lake, so ~54 mph brings me to the end fairly quickly. Now I have to convince the wife before anyone looking for a 200SS sees this thread and sneaks into the dealer...

It sounds like a pretty good price. The dealer where i bought my H180 has an 08 leftover SSH200 listing for around the same price with similar options except i think it has the 5.0. what a really good looking boat wish i had the money to upgrade.

well, I will give my 2 cents. I bought a 200H last year. not the SS but still. it was a 2007 hold over I paid $23,500 out the door. it has the 5.0L carb 220 HP. with all the warrantees and Sirius radio. so to me it sounds like a good deal. you have the bigger motor and the all mighty SS..... it has to be $15,000 to $20,000 off the sticker price. that is 1/2 way to another boat....heh heh

Its probably a decent deal. Consider this:

About 6 months ago, I looked at trading mine in. I was offered (by two different dealers) in the area of 17500-20K for my boat. Mine is probably as clean as the new one on the showroom floor. There isnt a single scratch on it, anywhere. I was told that they would sell my boat for 23-25K if I were to trade it in. So, with that said...probably not a bad deal in the end. I would (as said above) get them to toss in all the safety gear and tubes, skis, etc....
