Does anyone have any experiance with getting aluminum props refurbished or know a good place to have this done? I've got two aluminum props (14.5x19 and 14.3x21) that have some minor damage that I'd like to get repaired. I could replace for $110 each shipped from overtons, but wanted to see if refurbishing was an option first.

Thanks!

When I had aluminum props I used Luft's Prop Repair in Red Granite Wisconsin. Mainly because they are close to my house and the guy does awesome work for cheap. Last prop. cost me about $40.00 and looked new when I got it back. Not sure if he has a website, but his phone number is 920-566-4575.

Midwest Propeller in Olathe, Kansas. Have dealt with them for years and swear by them. A few others on here will verify it.

I've used these guys with great results on a set of Volvo DPs I ended up selling....

Not a bad price, had it done in a few days also.

Thanks! I'll have to check pricing at the local shops. I've found that my wife has a nack for finding underwater objects with the prop (concrete boat ramp, large rock on boat ramp), so it may be good to have a local source.

On a side note, I've decided to pull the trigger on a top mount extended swim platform from swimplatforms.com. Made the templates last night. Now just waiting for them to confirm the pictures before I send them.

Price follow up for refurbishing a 14.5", 3-blade aluminum prop:

Delaware Propeller - $60 each + $10 return shipping
MidWest Propeller - $65 each + $10 return shipping
Precision Propeller - $71 each (didn't check on shipping as they are local)

All claimed 1 week turn around.

Just thought I'd share the information.

Not bad pricing. Who are you going to use? I've only used the local place, as shipping a Duoprop set would be a PITA unless you had the right sized box.

I'll probably use Precision Propellers since they are just a few miles from where I work. They are a little move expensive for the actual work, but there are no shipping costs and I don't have to hassle with boxing them up. I will probably just take one of my props and make sure they do a good job before I get the other done as well. Unless there is a multi-prop discount...

I believe there is. I was VERY impressed with how they fixed up a Duoprop set I had. It was the spare set for my last boat which I sold or I'd take some pictures.

You will find that Aluminum props can be refurbished a couple of times but eventually get to a point that they are too thin. Each time they are refurbished they get thinner. They will either start to bend much easier or the prop shop will tell you the metal is now too thin. Depending upon the shop they might be refurbished 2-3 times, then you will need to start over with new props.

My $.02 on the above... I used midwest for my alum prop repairs. My lakes are murky mine-fields, plus I do beach a lot. I averaged about 1 repair per season. After about 4 years I stepped up to SS props, and have not had to get any repairs done on them (7 years now). IMO they are worth the added expense.... even my spare is SS.
