I have an 2003 328 Vista and over the weekend I purchased a CDX-M60UI Sony Marine CD Receiver w/ USB/AUX to replace the original unit. I kept with Sony becuase of the CD changer and i'm hoping I won't have to be concerned with additional wiring. This unit is ipod ready, so with the additional cable I can plug my ipod into the base unit and i'm purchasing the sony rx60m remote to replace the standard on the helm, so I can run my ipod from the helm. Does anyone have this set up and I'm wondering how the ipod cable is handled below. According to the specs it comes out the back. My initial thought was purchasing a usb to usb connecter and mounting that beneath the unit. Just looking for some mounting suggestions! Thansk all.

Has any one replaced the head unit in a 328? I thought removing the scews would allow the unit to be pulled out, however there is some resistance.

I completed my stereo upgrades over the weekend. I replaced the stock xplod with the CDX-M60

and the stock remote was replaced with the following.

I was hoping the wiring harnesses would all be compatible and they were, however I do have to enlarge the hole on the dash to accomodate the new remote commander. FYI. to remove the stereo from the cabin, remove the four screws holding the faceplate. Remove the three screws on the right side of the fuse panel. Swing the fuse panel open, remove the bracket on the back wall attaced to the back of the stereo unit and it slides out fairly easy. I'm still deciding how I want to route the usb cable from the back of the unit, so I can plug in my ipod in the cabin and operate it from the helm. All in all a fairly good day.

Further update on my upgrades, the USB cable coming out the back of the head unit can be routed through the same hole as the cables for the cd changer. Now all I need is a simple wall mount in the closet for the ipod when its connected and i'll be good to go.

The helm remote install needs a 3 1/4 hole in the dash, my circle saw started to crawl so I stopped, didn't know the dash was aluminum. Taking the dremel up today to hopefully finish the installation. Then its on to the bottom paint!
