Don't worry, it's just for a month :D

Not that posting has been my #1 activity as a forum-whore lately, but I'm taking the admiral off to Europe for a few weeks.

Flight leaves today -- I'll be online very occassionally.

However... a question for you folks -- looking for ideas on how to get on a boat in some of the areas we'll be in...

We start with a week in Paris -- is there anything for boating around there? boat tours, excursions? Since it's not a coastal city - I don't think so - but worth asking?

We have a week in Munich - and over to Austria... where's an awesome lake to check out?

We wind around through switzerland a bit and then down to Venice. I know there's water-based-activities for me there. Hello Canals.

Lastly -- Rome... Anything boating or lakes around there? I am hoping to get down to Florence where they are coastal, but it's looking doubtful.

If anyone has any ideas -- shoot me a PM or reply here... I'll be checking this when I can.

Is the Iceland volcano that has been spewing ash into the atmosphere going to affect your travel plans?

That volcano just about destroyed the last year of organizing the admiral has done. SOOO many boat rides where I got to hear 'Europe this, Europe that'.

The trade is she doesn't worry about my bad habits (boating, motorcycles, toys). She just gets whatever she wants on this trip.

That little volcano had us worried. They started the Seattle --> Paris direct flight back up yesterday (Tuesday). It's delayed today, but still on the schedule.

At least they give us access to a lounge... can't complain with free booze and wifi for another hour!

I wouldn't bother coming to Europe; it's too expensive and full of .................Europeans !

Seriously though, I used to live in Switzerland, for a while near the Swiss/German border. The Bodensee ( = lake Konstanz/ Constance), which is South of Munich is reasonably large, borders Germany, Switzerland and Austria and has numerous ferries and "Rundfahrts" = roundtrips, mostly running from Konstanz. Including the Ubersee, which is another lake just down the Rhine. You are a bit too early for the Summer local festivals, which can be a lot of (drunken) fun!

The Ruppaner "Pils," a local bier in Konstanz, is still a favourite of mine.

At this time of year, the Rheinfalls at Schafhausen, Switzerland can be pretty impressive. Basically a waterfall on the Rhine. This year particularly so, due to the quantity of melting snow.

As far as Italy is concerned, the best lakes are ito the North of Italy/ South Switzerland ( Maggiore, Lugano etc)

I just got a great mailer from a company that does boating vacations across Europe. Might be more than you want to do, but this may give you some great ideas: http://www.leboat.com

Lake Como in Italy is very nice, I spent part of a day there in Bellagio. I didn't do any boating there but saw quite a few boats, the location is beautiful.

I travel to Europe weekly, from your posts if you go to Paris theres the sine River that has a few boat tours that can be boarded by the Eiffel tower.
Switzerland has lake Geneva which has many boat rentals and a day cruise. Lake Zurich is very
similar.
Italy has many lakes to the north, I've been to lake Como just north of Milan, there are lots of
things to do there. You can take the high speed ferry out of Verona to Bellagio or Como to Bellagio
but I caution you that those Italian drivers/pilots are crazy.

Have fun I know I would. Any more questions let me know.
