Great post! I hadn't seen those WLED-xHP's, they must be relatively new. That might be exactly what I put in my courtesy lights too. Thanks!

I just ordered 10 in red....the specs say they are MUCH brighter than the other 194s I have.

They are considerably brighter and short too (WLED-XP)... same length/width as the original bulbs. Thats the problem I ran into with some of their other bulbs, they were too long (and/or wide) and wouldn't fit into gauges or wouldn't allow you to put the cover on the courtesy light. They give off 120 degrees of light too.

The only exception was on my trim guage (top gauge - far right)... if you look at the picture its brighter than my other guages... too bright. I ended up changing the bulb in that one to a WLED-X which isn't as bright to make it the same brightness as the other guages.

Yes, the WLED-x's are about optimum for the helm IMO.

Let me enlighten you.

Per S. Ferguson on CSR, whom is all knowing, and considered a "friend" of some,
even though they have only met one afternoon at a boat show, he recommends the above
mentioned items for the following reasons:

1.) Sham Wow is by far the best for wiping off water spots on your boat hull that has 6 coats of Starbrite Premium Marine Polish with PTFE.
2.) The Chia Pet Herb Garden works wonders in the boat of absorbing gas fumes that linger in the cabin after you run your boat.
3.) The cordless extension cord is highly recommended for both nights per year you might spend overnite on the hook, for turning on and off underwater LED's, as well as during the day to run all 3 polishers you need to keep the boat shiney in front of your house.
4.) The Ove Glove is another usefull item that Scott has found invaluable when changing spark plugs on a hot engine, keeping his head from exploding when he gets the bill for haul out and put back to repair leaky shaft seals. Also very good for changing LED bulbs that were found to be too hot for the housing, and melt the plastic lens. Put the Ove Glove on, and simply pull the melted housing off and replace with a new one that some stranger on an internet forum recommended.
5.) And finallly, The clapper is so nice to have when you are sitting in your boat cockpit, reading a People magazine and sipping on your Mountain Dew, and suddenly, it starts to get dark. The night vision friendly red LED lights on your dash gauges just don't throw off enough light to read. No worries mate, simply clap your hands and your LED white cockpit lights illuminate the entire area with a warm comfortable glow.
When finished with the magazine, simply clap your hands and the lights go off. Priceless !

I was going to post some ShamWow stuff but you know the old saying: if you have to ask yourself whether it's appropriate, it probably isn't. Good stuff, Cap'n.

I hear ya there Mike, I was going to post some info about the benefits of a left handed axe, and how you never really know how good something is until you actually try it, but just could not find the boating tie in, so I didn't.

Oooooo Post # 2000. :)

Capn...interested in hearing about the left handed axe. I bought a left handed hammer and let me tell you...it is a cat's meow.

No...I bought that one and decided to sell it (I included the shipping) because I found one with "more red" lights.

Cool, shoot me a PM with the place where you bought it. I will order 8 of them.
A total stranger on CSR said they make great trim adjustment tools for outboards.
I can use one per motor on the boat we are considering !
