Congrats on the new boat Cap, she's a beauty. Someday I hope to own a cruiser as well (if I can ever get the admiral out of a bowrider!)

Nice looking boat but I am curious as to why the Monterey 282CR over the Four Winns 298 Vista? Given the stats are so similar (and I am sure you evaluated the 298) what was the deciding factor? Thanks and I hope you stay on board the forum.

You answered it earlier in this thread...... I'm cheap.

We did look at the 298. The cheapest 298 locally I found that was in decent shape was a 2000 for $59K. When I could get a 2005 282 for less money, in better overall condition, we went for it. A few other factors that are just preferences that we liked in the 282 over a 298, port side cabin access, no port side lounger, larger wet bar, dinette (we do not like the "C" shaped settee), engine room access with available room to work, storage capacity and overall layout of the boat. Not important for some, but they were important features to us.

Good Catch !!! Somebody wanted out bad and you were there to grab the deal. Going up 5 years makes it a no brainer all the other stuff is just bonus 8) These are the type of deals that are available all the time if you are patient and keep your ear to the ground. You traded in your old boat or sold it? If trade-in how did they treat you - "can't give you much more than NADA" BS or a true evaluation and sensible offer?

Yes we are keeping the name. It fits our boating lifestyle, and we like it.
A few pictures from the last 2 weeks.

Now thats a nice looking boat! How do you like the cabin layout? I've always thought that fold down dinette was a great use of space. I work right by a Monterey dealer and have spent many lunch breaks in they're showroom, and I'm always impressed with Monterey's quality. Enjoy your new boat :D

We really like the cabin set up. That was a big selling point for us. When the back cushion to the dinette is folded down, the V-berth is huge, and you can still use the other bench of the dinette. The dinette also can be used as a small sleeping or lounging area when the table is lowered.
The aft cabin can either be a bed, or an additional sitting area that has plenty of room with the cushions set as seat backs.
Having some head room to actually sit up in the aft cabin, makes all the difference. I had some claustrophobic moments sleeping in the aft cabin of our 268. Not so with this one.

As we use the boat, we find so many nice little touches as far as storage and layout is concerned. There is a place for everything. The build quality is everything we expected and more. I'm amazed at how well it handles in the rougher conditions compared to our 268. It feels much bigger and more stable than a 28 ft. boat. The twin engines and BIII outdrives ,make it so much easier to handle in close quarters at the marina or when docking. The V6's are just right for good performance and decent economy. Have not needed to use the tabs for getting up on plane yet. Only for leveling the load while underway.
We are lovin' this boat !

She looks like a great boat from the pictures! Monterey makes a very nice boat.

Gotta love the twin engines. I am not sure I could go back to a single. the ability to twist and maneuver is invaluable to me.

Does the Monterey give you much room down in the bilge? Will you be able to get to the motors to do your maintenance pretty easily?

Now that is a gorgeous boat, Cap'n. I love her stance in the water.

Yes, plenty of room to move around in the engine compartment. Mercruiser made these engines very easy to maintain, and Monterey provided the space to do it. The engine room lighting that comes on the 282 has been nice to have too.
