I had mentioned in another thread (my new boat thread I think) that I had planned to start a blog regarding the new desitnations my family and I explore in the Michigan.

On Sunday night I decided I might as well just start the blog. I have no idea if I will keep at it and actually make it worth the effort. However, I figure it doesn't hurt to try.

My goal is to document nice places within the state that a family with a smaller, trailerable boat can go to enjoy time on the water. I had been looking for good information over the last few years and I have not been able to find much. So, I decided I would document our adventures and maybe someone else will find it useful.

To start off I posted about a small lake close to home. Dumont Lake (Allegan County) I had never been there before and actually found it to be quite nice. I'm sure we will go back if we only have a couple hours to spend on the water.

Anyways, I plan to give more thorough reports on other destinations as the summer goes. I'll probably also post about some destinations we made it to in years past.

If you want to follow along here is a link:

That's a great idea RR. I will follow your adventures and enjoy your blog. It's a wonderful state we have here for boating, that does not get enough exposure IMO. Hopefully others will see what we love so much about boating in Michigan through your blog.

If you get up to Muskegon, let me know. We should be easy to spot, not many Monterey cruisers in our area.

I like the idea. I come to the UP often for snowmobiling, and have enjoyed several area lakes that appear to be good for boats too. Gogebic looks nice and has several restaurants. There is another lake along the snowmobile 8 corridor that I can't remember... silver lake or something with an S. What about Lake of the Clouds? Can you boat there?

please do share so others of us can come and enjoy it too!

Sorry but there is nothing better than Traverse City, Suttons Bay, Glen Lake, Torch, and Long Lake. Just a few of my favorites!

There are certainly a lot of great lakes in Michigan....which is why I started the blog. It really isn't intended to be a list of the "best" lakes in Michigan. It is more my attempt to chronical my journeys and hopefully help others learn a little about lakes they have never visted.

I plan to put up a post about every "new" lake I visit. I will also add posts about lakes I have visited in the past as time permits. So far time hasn't permitted much more than what I have posted.

Honestly, I am a little disapointed with my posts so far. I don't feel like I have been able to really "capture" what I set out to. It is a work in progress, I guess.

Constructive criticism or suggestions are appreciated.

I think your blog looks great! There is a ton of first person info that may be hard to come by just surfing the net! We signed up to follow your blog, and when you get a chance check out our blog.http://ben-dana.blogspot.com/ We started it last year and didn't do much with it, but with the new boat, and all the trips we plan to take this year we just started getting active with it again. We are taking a trip to Mackinaw at the end of summer, so if you cover the inland lakes, we'll do our best to cover the western shore of Michigan :D

OK guys just signed up to follow you both. I'll take a little more time to read but both are nicely done. I love Michigan and had a place on Torch lake for a short time. Keep posting your adventures.
