Looks like a great trip. Water looks fantastic. We have a place on Bull Shoals lake for 43 years & I never get tired of water that looks like that.

Really sucks that people who don't take 2 seconds to make sure there boat is safe end up taking away from those that do. Your kids are learning first hand the importance of maintenance.

Shawn, the first couple of years we stayed at TR we stayed on Indian Point. The 1st year, we had to use Indian Point Marina and I found it to be the most unacceptable place I've ever slipped. No protection for the boat, old bolts and nails sticking out all over the place down at hull level, an owner who couldn't care less, etc. We eventually moved out to Kimberling City and have been much happier there with calmer waters, a great dock, and easier access to the west which is where we prefer to boat. It's a 20 minute drive over to Branson, but we don't mind it and make the trip several times during the week. One of our favorites after boating is to drive in for Pizza World and Andy's Custard next door.

As to new adventures... isn't Bearded Clam enough adventure for you?

Mike- you went well above the call of duty in my opinion. If/when I'm on a bigger lake and someone needs a tow in a non-emergent situation I'll agree if I know its no more than a 30 minute ride at tow speed otherwise I'll make sure they are secure and wait til they have contacted a tow company. I'd also tow them to a safer area if need be and let them throw anchor. Only if no one can get to them or weather is coming or something like that will I spend that much time. Sorry, vacation time like that is too valuable to me.

Believe me, I understand and agree 100%. The thing is, on a lake this big the nearest marina can be an hour or more away at towing speed. Both of these situations occurred far out to the west, which is the undeveloped, calm part of the lake - which also means marinas are few and far between. I was about to tell the 2nd guy I'd make a phone call for him and take off when I noticed the rate his bilge was pumping. I really think that boat would've sunk before anyone else could've gotten there to help.

Where did you stay? We are staying at Waters Edge in Kimberling City from the 3rd to the 11th. A quick quesiton, do you travel with you bimini closed and up or closed and down? And do you travel with any cover on (bow/cockpit or travelling)?

For the last few years we've stayed at Ozark Mountain Resort (condos). Most of the condos require that you slip elsewhere - only a few of them allow you to slip at the OMR dock, but that's OK with me because What's Up Dock is fantastic and right across the 13 bridge from OMR. Also, my truck/boat are too long to navigate the roads on the property to get down to their ramp.

I always tow with the bimini stowed, booted, and in the low position, and with bow & cockpit covers on. I've never had a problem doing that, and the boat stays nice & clean inside. We've towed through a few downpours this way (including on the way back this time), and the interior stays completely dry.

We've never boated at Bull Shoals, but I'd really like to. I forgot to mention, the junker tri-hull was a Cobalt. I told the boys that was the Cadillac of boats in it's day, but it just shows how everything needs maintenance no matter how nice. I also hope they learned something about doing unto others.

One thing I forgot to mention, when washing down the boat yesterday before taking it back to storage, I discovered a quarter-sized area of gel coat chipped off low on the hull. I didn't feel any strikes in the water, so don't know if it was that or a rock thrown up on the road; the location would be about right for that. So instead of storage, the boat is now out at the fiberglass shop getting that repaired. An unpleasant surprise, but it also gave me a reason to get the new TFXtreme shift cable installed without waiting until the end of the season.

I appreciate all the nice comments!

I guess I'm kinda puzzled about them asking about your boat at the check point. I can understand asking about the trailer... making sure its registered, etc... but the boat? Why would they give a flip about the boat unless it was improperly loaded or a road hazard? Maybe its just me but I haven't heard of that one before. To me it would be like the game & fish guys who sometimes show up at the ramps to make sure your boat up to spec and properly equipped............. then asking about your truck registration! :?

Yeah I was perfectly fine with the checkpoint (other than the fact that they needed more signs so people could slow down earlier). I'm all for catching drunks and getting them off the road. I didn't get irritated until they informed me of the boat registration check. Then I got very irritated when they made me pull off onto a road to nowhere with inadequate provision to get turned back around. It had nothing to do with safety checks and they didn't suspect a safety problem; it was, "You have a trailer, turn on to that road." The road was filled with horse trailers, construction trailers, you name it. I'd be willing to bet they'd have caught more offenders if they'd just checked everyone's car registrations.

The location of the checkpoint was between Kansas City and the jumping-off point for 4 popular MO lakes - Stockton, Pomme de Terre, LOTO, and Table Rock. So maybe they're finding an abundance of stolen boats (and horse trailers and construction trailers... ) in KC these days. If that were the case, though, I'd expect them to be checking registrations in the KC-bound lanes, not the lake-bound ones. I don't know, to me it just seemed like a bunch of BS. Or a training exercise. :|

Great trip, pictures and post Mike. Glad you and the family had some time as a "family". I know the tow thing all too well. Probably do one or two tows a summer.

Was on my buddies (not an iFW member) brand new 242SL on Tuesday night heading to the Fournier/Styx concert at Summer celebration. Is about an hour run from his in/our marina to anchor...we were right on time to hit anchor at 7:15. See a guy in a 26' cuddy, about 5 miles out in Lake Michigan waxing his arms. Long story short, after the tow to the channel, through the channel and to his marina, we hit anchor at just before 10 pm...missing Fournier altogether.

Should have just brought him to the concert and dragged him back afterwards. :D

Thanks WD. Now that would anger me to a whole 'nother degree. Anyone who can afford a 26' cuddy and is willing to take it out on big water ought to have tow insurance IMO.

Good stuff, Mike.

I just spent a week down in Mobile Al working on Deep Blue, a pipe laying vessel for oil rigs. I got back to see the weather forcast and moaned... yet another weekend rained out!!! That makes two in a row due to rain, one due to work, and one more to rain.... 4 in a row!

Pretty soon Mike 230 will be giving me $hit for not getting the boat in the water

Our time at Table Rock wasn't so eventful, even though I had to leave a nice Fortress anchor stuck 75' down in a cliff face. Small price to pay for a July 4Th week of fun. We go to the south end of the lake because their are less people around. Next time maybe we see you there and I'm glad you had so good time there as well.

Well, it was a start anyway. :D The problem now is our normal day lake is 16' high and the summer is zipping by way too fast. Not sure how many more times we'll make it out this year with 2 kids in driver's ed and about to start their first year of marching band.

Mike, were you at TR in June? One day there was a schnauzer running around at What's Up Dock and I immediately wondered if you were there.

Hmmm, I just re-read some of my earlier posts on this thread, and am thinking I came across a bit harsh about the towing thing. I'm more than happy to give folks a tow. I consider it part of boating and I always try to remember it could've been me and not them. And, I try to remember how fortunate I am to have a nice boat, that there a lot of folks who are using whatever they can get their hands on to try to give their family a good time. It just gets a bit annoying when it's always someone who doesn't have any idea what they're doing or are in a boat that shouldn't be anywhere near the water. Still, I'll never turn my back on someone stranded.

How does Table Rock compare to the Lake of the Ozarks? We go down to the Ozarks every year and have never been to TR. Looks like it was calm for you guys. Ozarks is always so damn packed and our 18' boat takes a beating. Can't cruise very fast in our boat with all the other big and fast boats rolling by. We always stay in Osage Beach area and have never been further down the lake where I am sure it is more quiet. We like to stay close to all the "fun" amenities you can get to on the water and by car a short drive.

Looks like you all had a fun time though.
