On my '04 268, there is only two HVAC vents. One in the aft cabin, and one next to the thermostat...right by the cabin door.

The only place I could easily get a vent installed, is on the bow side of the galley, down below the counter top.

I found out where to buy the matching vent and a 3 way box to help me with the duct work. Took just about two and a half hours today, including a trip to the hardware store.

Not a bad end result if you ask me...and the airflow is good. It's a bit lower from the vent next to the thermostat...but thats tolerable. On high you get as much air as the aft cabin does...and the vent is just like the aft cabin. You can rotate or close it as desired.

WOW....when my wife sees that I'm going to be in big trouble....nice job indeed. That should help cool the front of the cabin for sure!

I can't believe I was able to get it done so quick and easy. I had lunch with woggy718 today....we may be doing this to his 248 shortly.

It adds a ton of airflow to a part of the boat that has never had any.

I'm curious to see where the vents are on your boat Joe.

If you do add a vent to the 248, please takes pics and post them. My 248 needs a vent in the v-berth. Currently I use a clip on fan that I sit directly in front of the vent by the door that blows the cool air towards the front of the boat. It's not an optimal solution.

http://www.dwincorp.com Is where I got the parts.

What is the galley/electrical mounting board in your 248 like? Shouldn't be that much different than my 268. The panel that the switches are mounted on are held on by L brackets. I was able to remove a cover plate thats held on by velcro at the top of it to access the top two L brackets. There was another one I could only get to by removing my stereo.

Were the factory hoses the insulated kind? It's generally a good idea to use them to avoid problems with condensation. The cold air running through uninsulated duct hoses tends to cause moisture to form (both inside and out) and this eventually leads to problems like mold.

They were Bill. I will keep an eye on it. At least now I know how to get it apart to swap them out if it becomes an issue.

I also ran a duct behind the galley - initially with uninsulated duct - and later regretted not using insulated duct. Your carpet will be wet someday soon, I'll wager, from condensation off the duct exterior.

With the humid summer we have had, there will no doubt be quite a bit of condensation on the ductwork. Mold will form easily, and cause
numerous problems. Once he gets his AC to achieve a temperature below 80 degrees, it will really magnify the condensation.

I'm changing the duct out sometime this week or next week. Why wait and have to cleanup a lot later when I'll still have to change it.

Too bad you have to do it over again, but at least it will be better. Image

Very true. But again thanks to the forum...because had I left it I'm sure I would have had a mess on my hands!

Now to get this AC fixed....
