Anyone ever had to replace the mounting bracket for a bimini pole?

Yesterday my mount pulled out of the fiberglass. The screw literally ripped through. At this point I'm thinking I need to look in to finding a fiberglass repair kit and filling in the holes and then redrilling the screws in.

The ironic part...I just picked it back up Friday after getting the bottom cleaned, exterior detail and some minor fiberglass repair on the bottom chine. I'm thinking it won't be cheap (cause that wasn't) to bring it back and have him fix this.

This time around you will want to try to thru bolt the mount back to the boat with washers and either double nut the bolt or use a nylock nut.

IMO, You really do not want to use the screws again, or you will be doing this again someday soon.

PS, You might want to do the other side while your at it, Before it's to late.

I got the old bracket off. I think you are right. I have two options:

1. Buy the same size but longer screws and just embed them deeper.

2. Drill the hole all the way thru and use a nut bolt lock washer combo.

I got it fixed. Picked up 4 screws from Home Depot that were longer (3"). I was going to get bolts, nuts and washers but I couldn't find anything other than slot head bolts. I'm a philips guy so I just went with the screws for now.

Notes:

1. 3" was plenty long. The old screws must have been just a smidgen short of coming through. I wanted a shot of the screws coming through to show length but camera wouldn't take it.

2. If I replace later this season with bolts I want to find a metal bracket of some sort I can use to give it added strength. I may see what I can dig up at the farm shop sometime. I think a metal bracket or very large washers would be a must.

3. Don't forget to put the pin cord back in before inserting the screw.

I tried to snag some pictures of the work. Note the bent screw in the one picture isn't even the one that pulled through. I still need to decide if I'll be getting the fiberglass repaired. I imagine that won't be cheap.

One larger to show fiberglass damage better.
