Last year the toilet worked great. First few outings this season I noticed the ball wasn't coming all the way back and so the the vacuum pulled all the water out of the bowl. I worked it a few times and it sealed. Now it doesn't want to seem to open with the pedal. Its cracked open like it was before so when you hit flush it will pull all the liquid out. Has anybody had them stick closed?

Never stuck closed. Had it where it did not seal where it sucked air for a while till I figured out what is was.

I notice that mine tends to stick a bit and not close unless I flush and let it 'snap' back quickly. That was last summer.

Hasn't been an issue this year.

Mine leaks, even if I snap it back. No doubt the seal at the bowl needs replacing. I, however, have decided to live with the hissing leak and only turn it back on when ready to flush. I've no desire to get into that shitty job right now. Given my hassles with the whole waste system I've had just about enough of that nonsense to last me for a while.

Haha bill... my friend with a 298 came REALLY close to selling his boat when he had to unclog his, according to his wife. Fortunately I haven't had to do that yet. I think I'd rather pull both motors first! Who makes these toilets? I'm going to see if I can track down an online build sheet to see why it wouldn't be opening.

This is what happen on my searay a few years back

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My vacuflush head got out of sync. Normally when the foot lever is in the middle neutral position the ball is closed.

I stepped on mine and it felt kind of funny and then the ball would open when I released the pedal instead of closing. Obviously the head won't work like that. Lucky it was only liquids.

I took apart the pedal and water valve and got to the spring cartridge. There is a square post on the shaft that turns the ball and a square hole in the spring cartridge. Somehow the shaft was in the wrong position in the cartridge, turned 90 degrees from normal. I realligned everything and reassembled it. Everything worked fine for about two weeks. Then it happened again.

Some how the square head is now in the wrong position. The cartridge is soft plastic, so if something jams the ball, the head can turn.

This happened to me twice before I ordered another spring cartridge. When the new cartridge arrived it had an extra screw, then I realized that one had been missing all along.

Check out the expoded diagrams on the sealand website. Keep digging they're are there. You can fix this with a screw driver, just make sure all the parts are there.

Yep, this is some what of a known issue. The plastic square drive from the spring cartridge to the ball valve slips and gets stripped out. They have a new one out now that is made from brass, I changed mine 2 seasons ago and have not had anymore problems, the plastic one was getting changed almost yearly, depending on use.

They sell the kit (ball valve, spring cartridge, and brass shaft) for about 40 bucks, you should replace the bowl seal at the same time. I get mine from http://www.marinesan.com

+1. That was exactly my issue as well. The new kit with the brass part solved the problem.

Thanks guys. Yea, the cartridge seems to be the issue although it doesn't look rounded out. I'll just update anyway. FYI thanks for the link and they have a NE distributor in Long Island, for us east coast guys. 1 day shipping to md :)
I couldn't have more than 25 flushes on this toilet since new!
