Due to the 8 inches of rain that our area received on Thursday, a slow-no-wake rule was put into effect on area lakes Saturday night. We were out tubing and such on Saturday and was surprised the rule had not already been posted. On Sunday, the park ranger was notifying everyone prior to launch of the rule and some were staying, others leaving.

For those that stayed, it was a nice calm day on the lake where you could swim where ever you wanted. Those that were going fast, were friendly when you told them of the notice (those living on the lake were not notified). All in all it was a fun experience with about 100 boats anchored to swim and have a good time.

Ok, may be a stupid question but I have to ask. Why would heavy rain require a "no wake weekend" on a lake. If it was a river, I could understand debris in the water, but I'm just not following. I have never heard of such a thing and am just curious.

There is a small river that feeds into the lake, which has levels maintained by a rather small dam. They issue the slow-no-wake rule to protect from shoreline erosion and docks that may be partially under water.

This rarely happens, however, since we received about 8" of rain last Thursday, it was almost to be expected.

I did notice that the restriction was lifted at 5pm today, so it'll be crazy as usual for the weekend

There are still other lakes in the area that are more prone to flooding and have the restriction still in place. A couple of years ago, one local lake was no wake for practically the entire summer after it flooded the town.

Hmmm, thanks for the info, makes sense. Never heard of anywhere around here issuing that kind of restriction, but I guess it would help the shoreline. Rising/falling water is a constant thing around here in the rivers as well as the Chesapeake Bay. Thanks

They never post a no-wake at our lake, but when it rains a lot, 8 + inches in a day or two, there are always small tree branches and stumps floating around the lake. You have to be very careful and keep a sharp eye. That much rain in a short amount of time brings a ton of debris off the shore and into the middle of lake.

As long as you're not throwing a wake, the patrol boat wasn't going to bother you. I think I was moving between 4-5mph
