I am about to buy a 1998 Horizon 18.5 (he is calling it an LX but I can find that model anywhere) Is there anything I should be looking at in particular (problem areas) on the test drive?

In 1998 Four Winns had the Horizon QX which was 16'-6" Length overall.

The next step up was the Horizon RX and RS. These were both 18'-0" LOA...these are same boat, the RS was just dressed up a little nicer.

I would guess you are looking at a RX based on the specs you have.

Nice boats. There really isn't anything in particular to look for. Obviously, make sure that everything is working correctly.

No LX, in 98 they had a QX, RS and RX. In 99 they had an LS.

Listen for growling noises, water leaks in the rear, check all the guages, make sure it has good accelleration and runs the proper rpms wide open.

Agreed, but I may be biased with the RX

The interior space for an 18' boat is excellent.

Check that the shifter is smooth, the gauges work properly (speedo will be off until about 22mph), trim working, etc. It should fire right up, even if it has sat a week or two. Take it for a ride and see that the bilge is dry.

You should be above 45mph WOT with the stock 3-blade prop (RPM ~ 4400).
