Well as it turns out, my boat was under warranty and will be for another two years, the service advisor did some looking around and found that the boat has a warranty from FPC and told me that she had filed a claim and it was paid, the pump with install was 912.00, when I picked it up today it was 18 bucks for the deductable, I was stoked to say the least, I will be sending her some flowers, Phil Dill rocks.

Mine was replaced last summer. Of course it started failing the weekend before we were going out of town with it and PhilDill to the rescue. The graciously fit me in and fixed it before we left town the next weekend. Mine was also squirting oil out each time I operated it. I stopped moving it before the oil level got to low. Glad to hear it worked out for you!

The pump is the worse idea VP has had in a while, they will all leak eventually at the white plug or the newest issue is that they just start running by themselves. My dealership has had to replace many of them in the last 3 years. I will be the first to say they are junk, but basically its the only known Volvo Penta issue I have to deal with on a regular basis.

This may sound crazy, but I was cleaning the boat up last week just after I read and commented on this post, and realized my trim pump was leaking again?!? . Called the dealer and got it changed right away, just in time to head out on our wonderful 4 day vacation on Lake Ouchita. We had planned it almost a year in advance and the trim pump almost ruined it 2 years in a row now, but our dealer came through again with almost no warning. What is going on with these things? So this will be 3 trim pumps on a 3 year old boat. The service writer seemed to think they've (Volvo) got it figured out, but only time will tell. Oh, the service writer also mentioned that he had several other boats in for the same repair and that he was very frustrated with all the trim pump replacements they've been doing.

I guess the good news is, if these things are failing constantly, Volvo will have no choice but to find a real solution for it. I don't understand how these kinds of problems ever get off the drawing board.

I must admit when I first heard of the progress with the "SXA" in having a trim pump on the transom shield, underwater, I was a little bit dubious. Seems the problem I was envisaging, of it being underwater is not the real issue; it's basically a c**p design concept. I know plastics have been mentioned, I am a polymer chemist by training and work in the plastics industry, but it seems like a very poor design, or very persuasive selling by an adhesive manuactureer ( Yeah sure, we have a product that can bond in that little plastic plug, no problems)!

What they need is an internal trim pump assembly and a distribution manifold on the transom assembly ( hey, wasn't that what they had on the SX?)

Seems like they tried to reinvent the wheel solving a problem that didn't exist....trim pumps have sat in the rear corners of I/O engine compartments for close to 50 years and the only issue is once every 10-20 years you might have to replace the pump or lines....
At the rate these are failing I bet they revise this design real fast because it's getting expensive for them and after the OSI fiasco they don't need any more bad press...

They changed the design because of boat manufacturers, not because they thought it was the best idea. The manufacturers want them out of the boat so they can use the space or eliminate it, Merc was thinking of heading the same way but now who knows...

I actualluy put cyanocrylite glue over the white plastic plug and it worked when it was leaking, then it just popped out what a piece of doo doo.

I don't expect it's anything at all to do with the boat manufacturers wanting to save space. More to do with the manufacturer saving labour costs, as presumably VP supply the transom shield with all the hydraulics in place, possibly even prefilled with hydraulic fluid.

The concept is sound in that respect, but the execution appears poor.

OK... I have the VP SX-A outdrive on my '08 H210. I only have about 20 hrs on the motor so far. Does anyone know what the standard manufacturer's warranty is? Should I have this checked out at the end of the summer? Other than the drive slipping down over time while out of the water, are there any other things I should be on the lookout for? Finally, do the replacement pumps that are being installed now have the issue corrected? Thanks!
